Is there an amount of money I can invest into one of my websites to get it to at least appear on the 1st page of google for a keyword?? Is it possible to pay someone or a company to do this for me?
Sure, tons of other SEO consultants love to give broken promises and un-guarenteeable results. Just look around; or you can find a SEO consultant that actually knows what he is doing and understands that no amount of money can achieve what time can. It's your money, choose who you spend it on wisely. The buy, sell and trade sub-forum is a great place to see complaints and horrible reviews; not including mine in my signature ofcourse . But then again, I'm not like every other SEO consultant. I also do internet marketing, PPC\CPM management and revenue management.

I am very frustrated right now with one of my sites. It's on page 3 with my main keyword, so it's practically invisible to the world. It does SO well with adsense when I get hits from craigslist or something. *Sigh* I will have to concider investing some more because I obviously can't do it on my own..

Well, whatever you do, don't belive anyone who says they can guarantee you the 1 spot on Google. No one other than Google can do that and from what I know that has never happened. You can however find a firm/consulant that is more likely to rank you better than the others, all depending to what techniques they've used. You can invest in both SEO and PPC and have great return from it. With that in mind, you should consider how much money it's worth investing into your site. Well, You go with them who are giving you good and cheap services. take your time and then diced what is good for you. don't get panic. I want tell you one more thing SEO is a time game you can get your ranking but have to wait, and I'm sure nobody is here to give you permanent ranking on your main keyword with in 3, 4 day or weak, and if you got your ranking on page 3 then it means you are going right direction so continue your work which did in past, you can achieve your goal defiantly
You have to be very careful choosing who you go with in SEO otherwise you're wasting your money. Try to find someone who is doing it right and ask them how much they would charge. You should still be able to get guarantees of sorts. A good SEO will improve your rankings without fail. It's possible to get #1 in 2 weeks depending on the competition, I've done it recently. If you are going for highly competitive keywords you're going to have to spend more time, money and effort. Study your keyword market, if #1 for your biggest keyword is impossible you might want to try to be #1 for another keyword that isn't as popular.
