How to compete in Adwords

Ok, Well, over the past month I've been reading a ton on adwords. I'm already familiar with ad networks and CPA offers and I thought I'd start with ringtones (surprise). I built a landing page (select a carrier), included terms/privacy policy, a bunch of page copy. Sent each of the carrier links to another internal page that then redirected to the offer. The particular offer (which I've been told is "converting like crazy") was specific to about 10 various artists. I setup adwords to the target country, excluded content network, and set accelerated bidding. I built one ad group for every artist that the offer had available (so about 10 in total). I then researched keywords through the typical means (word tracker, suggestion) and each ad group contained about 50 or so keywords.

I set my daily budget to $500/day, after the first day I started seeing a few thousand impressions, hardly anything for what was estimated. I set my pricing competitively and QS was GOOD. After a few days I got maybe ten thousand impression, about 50 or so clicks and 1 conversion.

Does anyone have suggestions for how to really compete and get traffic? I've put aside $15k to spend on AdWords, and I want it spent as quickly as possible, but obviously still convert the offer (1:50 seems hardly anything to write about) and all but 6 clicks didn't click through to the offer, so let's say it's really 1:44.

I really appreciate any feedback you guys can provide me, I'm grinding my teeth, I know there's a secret sauce, but I can't seem to find the ingredients.

    Thanks!

Sorry, I don't give away landing pages or offers and I wouldn't expect anyone to. I'm more or less asking for advice to scaling a campaign and doing it quickly.

if your getting thousands of impressions, but low ctr..

1 either that means your too far down in position
    2 your ad just sucks
3 your keywords aren't targeted well enough (most likely)

you should be going after the long tail, and i dont mean long keywords. But ones that the person would really be ready to buy with. words starting with like "buy" "order" etc. model #'s etc.

If this is your first foray into PPC, then choosing ringtones is quite risky. Yes you can be successful, but it is much harder than other niches which can be more profitable.

LOL "send me your landing page"...uh sure! here you go... :)

Don't be in a hurry to blow your money though, take your time, do something easier then ringtones to start though.

If you are getting tens of thousands of impressions but little clicks (only 50) then I would say 2 problems. A bad text ad and irrelevant keywords.

If you are seeing good conversions then your LP is doing good. You just need to scale and capture more traffic. Aim for a CTR around 1% - 2%, but 50 clicks / 10k impressions leads me to believe you still have content on, or you really really have really bad keywords

You will get the maximum amount of traffic in position 3 as position 3 has more syndication on the Google search networks then position 4 and below.

It's really impossible to say what to do without looking at your account physically, if you really want some GOOD advice I would have to see your campaign.

Thanks guys... I think I need to spend more time breaking up the keywords into better more targeted/closely related groups, and also remove some of the more broad terms I have...

I don't know what value $15k have for you, may be very little ... but starting with $500 per day budget is not much of an intelligent way in PPC. Start with smaller amount, say $50 a day budget, some thousand impressions, some hundred clicks and a couple dozen conversions.

After you see positive ROI, then raise your budget, goals and everything will increase including your profit.

See robert's tip in another thread:

Most likely, you will blow away $15,000 even before you start seeing positive ROI .. especially in ringtones. And unless you have decent past experience in PPC and ringtones.

    just my 2 cents.
