should i begin investing in SEO?

Ok, so I have a site. (my first site)

The content is not bad. Adsense is embedded.
The on-page seo is not too bad.
IF I start putting money into links, will it pay off - does it always pay off? will a site always be successful as long as you follow the many tips you hear from everywhere?

    Your past experiences?

You're site will be successful if you have solid foundations to your SEO/SEM campaign so yes in that respect.

It depends on how much your budget is but would it not be more productive to use that budget on an AdWords campaign to drive traffic to your site right away and in the mean time build links naturally instead of wasting it crappy paid links?

To me that seems the obvious choice.

I would advice not to start putting money into SEO, instead put time into SEO and use all the free methods because in most cases the free methods can be just as good, if not even better.

if you will invest a money at seo it will give you some benefits that would help increase your earning but it is a gamble sometimes it work sometimes not it depends on the quality and effectiveness of your seo specialist the the traffic it brings to your site.

Sure there are methods that SEO companies employ and charge you for that help, but in my experience it's better to stick around here and pick up lots of useful advice and tips for free.

Your aim should be to make the site as user friendly as possible , sensible titles and meta tags,

In my experience many SEO companies charge you for the information you can find here for free.

Spend your time (not necessarily your money) building backlinks and making you site user friendly, useful page titles, etc. Do that and the search engines will come to you.

I agree with most people here. If you are going to spend money on SEO, spend it on AdWords. I don't, and wouldn't suggest paying for backlinks.

As others have said, try to do as much free SEO as you can. Read up on SEO. Learn it. There's so much out there, and so many ways and strategies to implement SEO. But it take a lot of time. If you don't have that time, maybe you can hire a firm to do it for you, but just make sure that you know how they 'SEO your site', and make sure that they don't use black-hat techniques. Google and other SEs are rapidly catching onto back-hat techniques, and you can get penalized for it (another reason to not buy backlinks).

I think a lot of people misunderstood me, I am not paying for links. But I am paying people to submit to: directories, article directories etc.

That is what I meant by invest.

Also the site is a site made for adsense, so adwords is out of the question I think.

I dont think links would help you too much especially with google all up in your face banning link purchases, I would figure investing time instead of money and working on your seo for your site :D.

if you don't have the time to do those yourself, why not? submitting to directories is easy. finding GOOD directories to submit to, now that's a challenge.. plus almost all good directories are paid nowadays, so add those to your bill as well. best of luck mate :D

Bah, i really hate people who rely on paid links. What worse is, Google never filtered those kinds of links, at least not in my targeted keywords! Anyway, if you invest your money to submit your website to directories or article directories, that will be a waste of money.
