Hi guys, I have been investigating the In-Portal software and it looks pretty good to me. It has a directory module as well as forum, news, and e-commerce modules. However, it is pricey (relatively speaking) but it has the features and functionality I am looking for. Do you guys think that it is worthwhile building a hihg quality niche directory site on Links.com using this software? Thanks for the input. Rich
its pricey alright gonna cost you $900 for the main program and the directory module alone? depends on the niche and if there is the interest there to make the money back and make it worthwhile will you also have enough unique content/sites to keep adding? if you pick a very specific niche it will be very difficult I know its maybe nice to have something out of the box but for the money they are asking for those modules you could get something custom coded
Hi there, Thanks for the feedback. I do not think it is as pricey if I start off with the Portal or Directory packages, both of which have the Directory module. According to their site, the Portal package is $395 and includes the Directory, News, and Forum, and CMS modules. The Directory package includes the Directory and Ecommerce modules and costs $395. Higher than industry average, but well worth if for me if the site work outs. I think that I will be able to find enough niche contents to keep the site growing, but what I need to build the domain is repeat visitors. It is not clear to me whether directories retain visitors. I did look at custom coding, and customizing a site with all of the features I need, including the administration features would cost far more than the initial base price of the product. I am reviewing the code to see whether it can be customized, and so far it looks very good. Thanks again for your feedback. It helps a lot. Rich
Hi there, Yes, I have checked out most of the other popular directory packages including PHPLD, Esyndicat, IndexU, WSNLinks, Gossamer, PHPMyDirectory, Focal Media, etc. In-Portal gets me to where I want to be at the lowest cost. Also, they are local to me in Chicago and provide excellent support, which is important to me if Links.com does grow. If you know of one that you think I should look, I would appreciate the link. Thanks for your help. Rich
