A friend of mine sent me this last week, very sad news - there was more to life than playing a game! R.I.P http://www.proxyhamster.com/upload/images/9ukmi40ohq56d6k8r25.jpg
Indeed that is sad. I'm 16 and I have an "addiction" to online games like counter strike and some mmorpgs. The Money he was scammed off in his game runescape could of easily been replace via a gold seller. He probably could of bought the 11 mil he lost for like what, $40 us dollars? I would even paid for it for him if I saw his post. If only kids obsessed with games could realize how easy their "online fortune" could be achieved with really money.
My 10 year old just signed up with rs about a month ago, now I will think twice about letting him play -
Suicide is a very selfish act. To be honest I don't think he should have done it. There is more to life than gaming, he may have taken a big blow but I doubt his parents will see it that way.
Well his life must have been on the brink. I would think stuffing up in an online game wouldn't lead a kid, let alone a 14 year old to hanging himself.
At 14 you don't have much of a life really do you? at 14 I played on my computer all the time, hang out with friends but mainly stayed to the computer.
The way they have things in Runescape setup now, gold sellers can't really make any kind of a profit. In order to trade gold to another player, that other player has to trade something else of similar value +/- 3000 gold. This was pretty much done to prevent gold selling and certain forms of scamming. Although I'm certain gold sellers will still try to find a way to beat this new system, it'll take them awhile to do it.
R.I.P . Saddest thing I've ever seen. 14 years and suicide! and then for just a game. So sad .... In that quoted post what hes talking about?
If you've seen some of the posts on Runescape's forums in the past, so many people were getting scammed out of millions of gold worth of items that they would either threaten to quit or kill themselves...99% of those posts were merely to gain sympathy from other players and don't actually do what they say they're gonna do. I believe that's what the kid had meant.
I've had thoughts about killing myself after being raped- Killing yourself isn't selfish- people think about these things because they feel despair and loss of hope and they have no clue how to go on another day..Imagine being at the worst point in your life and not seeing a way out or a way to make things better-once you get older- 20's or 30's you can see it's just a low point in your life but when you are young you cannot see or imagine that things will get better...I can say that I've had time when things were so bad that I was two seconds from walking out into the street and having a car kill me because I was afraid to do it myself- but life gets better and bad times pass and good times come so I saddened to see that he couldn't have held on long enough to see a good day to know that it didn't have to mean the end.. My prayers to his family.
Young people especially, teen aged ones need counseling to keep them in tandem with the reality. What they require is social get together with other like minded people so that they are free from evil thoughts. Remember : An idle mind is devil's workshop.
You are exactly right, anyone who says suicide is a selfish act has never known the depth of despair and pain that suicidal people go through, can you imagine what must be going on in someones head to get to this point? It doesn't happen overnite, a lot of times there is a mental condition that isn't being taken care of. My husbands Uncle was married with two kids, had a great home, a job he loved working as a counseler at a boys home. Everyone thought he was the happiest guy on earth until the day he jumped off the top floor of a parking garage. Come to find out, he had been on anti-depressents for years, but the company he worked for was going to start testing their employees for drugs and he was to embarassed that anyone would find out he took anti-depressents, As a 14 yr old, the brain is not fully developed, problems seem much larger than they really are. We must have been in a lot of pain. I wish he had talked to his parents.
suicide is definetly not a selfish act but none the less, it isnt one which should be taken, Im sure that the teen must of been having a rough time with his outside life also. I hope the scammer finds out about this. I dont know if he could be legally charged with his death. As parents we shouldnt stop our kids from playing the games we should try make sure they understand it is only a game and nothing else. I know it can be hard at times becuase of thier thick skulls, but none the less. For example this would be story to tell them, and show them, becuase they would be about the same age and can relate. Especially if they world of war craft and Rune scape, or any other of these role playing games. Just becuase the tend to really attach a player to it.
Obviously, this child did not do this over just a game, it's a combination of things which caused him to do this, to think it's just over a game, is very narrow-minded, the game would just have been the final straw is all. Obviously this child was in turmoil and didn't know where to turn, I do not think what he did was selfish, I think he was in a lot of pain and being as young as he was, couldn't see the bigger picture. Anyone notice it happened in 2006? It's being reported like it just happened.
