As I see, you don't have budget + PR + SERP for this at the moment as it's new. However, I'm interested in writing an article ( or maybe 2) 'IF' you can offer a link or 2 within the article ( kinda guest writer stuff ). Let me know. Thanks.

    hi
you may post on the site anyway (with links) - anybody can register and sign up.

this topic is for gathering a small selection of future writers with real skill who can offer quality content. eventually i will turn off public submission

Websites covering specialist topics. Book publisher, doing book on specialist topic.

Inside knowledge of a topic, or better still, topics, is key. That, and the ability to bang out prose that will keep people's attention.

Good Luck to you, Matt - but you won't get good writers willing to write for free, for long.

How's Hull these days? I've fond memories of the Polar Bear, the Wellington pub, the St John's, Pearson Park, etc.

Matt - our landlords don't let us live in our houses for free, (or there is a mortgage to be paid), the supermarket doesn't wave us generously through the checkout, saying "It's ok, have the groceries for free - we aren't intereted in making any money". Gas isn't free. Electricity isn't free. Services don't come free. This is why we charge for our hard work. It's part of the world that we live in, we all have bills to pay. Plumbers, electricians, window cleaners, etc, - they don't work for free. Neither do writers.

When the student writers that you are planning on asking turn you down, are you going to accuse them of being money grabbers? I think you are almost certainly headed for a disappointment if you cannot grasp how business works. And btw - why are you setting up a website in the first place? Don't you intend to make money from it eventually?

And one last thing, Matt - when did you last provide a service to a total stranger for free?

Thanks for giving us a right good laugh, mate. :D

:S i've done plenty of free bits of work, i enjoy helping people out.

clearly you need to pick up a dictionary and look up the word "teamwork". how do you think businesses start? it's not always just one guy; it's a team, working toward a shared goal. right now, i have no budget, and a big big work load. in order for it to pay off, i need to apply myself completely. i am asking for the help of others in order to progress with the site and reep some rewards later on, which of course i will share. the potential for this kind of website is massive.

it's ok if you don't want part in it - as i said in a previous post you wouldn't be the man for the job anyway :p

Oh dear, I'll try to console myself. How tragic that I won't be playing a role in your great enterprise. :D

I really could have bought a lot with that ten cents ...

    RAOFLMAO ...

Serioiusly though - if you want people to share in helping you get a project off the ground, fair enough. I think the problem was that you called people names for not giving their services for free.

You haven't done yourself, or your sites (which incidentally look quite well designed), and favors, mate.

    "called people names"

well we're not in the playground and i don't recall posting anything that might be offensive.

bottom line: i'm offering to pay (albeit a small amount) for articles to my site when people are quite happy to submit them for free.

Oops, slip of the keyboard, actually, I meant to say "any favors". That you haven't done yourself, or your sites, any favors.

You did imply that we were "money grabbers", and it's hardly surprising that you are going to get some rejoinder to that.

It really is news to me that people are happy to submit articles for free.
