Go ahead, it's your adsense account that's going to get canceled. I believe they also have a clause about error pages in general, but i'm not going to check.

You actually can place AdSense on 404 pages, as of the February TOS update. It had been in the TOS that you could not, but that section was removed.

    From JenSense.com (http://www.jensense.com/2008/02/26/tracked-with-web-beacons-by-adsense/):

Definitely a 3rd party opinion so take that advice at your own risk, maybe even just contact Google and ask. But JenSense is usually dead on.

Just to be safe, don't put adsense in 404, unless you really have some content there.

Some webmasters asked Google about this a while back. Their responses are in the thread - http://forums.digitalpoint.com/showthread.php?t=104815

It is interesting now that having adsense on error pages has been removed from the actual TOS.

As usual, if you unsure, email Google yourself and find out.

First How big is your site that you get too many 404s!!!,
Second there is no need to put adsense on such pages and it is against TOS.

Yup, only adsense tag on page with content otherwise that 404 is nothing more than a page full of Ads :p
