A natural PR may give you a basic idea about how popular your site is in general.

for the past few yars now its been a gr8 sales gimmick for advertising/ selling links!

But now that very few people have PR left, a new "sales gimmick" has to be looked into!

Well to be very honest we still think pr shows the status of a website. And in recent days google is being strict with their pr algorithm so no one can say that pr is useless unless there lies a story of "grapes are sour" .

Anyways may be we still can have a lots of argument regarding this issue .
    Looking ahead to others comment.
    Thanks and regards.

    Hello Ashwini,

Google has not yet changed it's algo for distributing pr,
Well you might be pr lover.

    Which kind of website status?

a website having pr 5 but not coming in SERP listing for it's business keywords that brings fruit for him,

Which status is better PR or SERP.

Ask here any one 100 out of 99% members will say PR is worthless against SERP.

No more discussion on the same.

    Thanks.

Setting aside for a moment whether or not PR is important to Google, there are some psychological reasons why a higher PR is better than a lower one. Here are a few of those reasons:

    • Other webmasters are more likely to link voluntarily to a page with, say, PR6 than to one with a PR2. So the higher-PR page is likely to pick up more backlinks.

    • Directory submissions are more likely to be accepted upon review if you have a high PR. We’ve all seen those directories that list in a sidebar the number of PR7, PR6, etc., links (similar to how premier universities are proud to list the SAT scores of incoming freshmen). Directory owners are happy to have a bunch of high PR links. It adds to that directory’s credibility.

    • Most random surfers out there on the www don’t have a clue what PR even means. But let’s face it, among those who do, even considering the valid debates over PR’s importance, there just seems to be a greater “respect” factor accorded to the higher-PR web page. That respect may lead to more clicks, more bookmarking (and therefore more repeat visitors), etc.

    • If you ever choose to sell your website, the PR will be a substantial factor in determining a mutually agreeable price.

Should these psychological factors matter? Maybe so, maybe not. But in the real internet world out there, they do indeed matter in the minds of many.

I would definitely say they do matter. While I don't believe PR is the end all be all in serps, I do think you have a valid point. There are lots of people that think page rank is your internet report card, and after seeing a low score may consider your site less than worthy of viewing. I know if I am going out for dinner I and have a choice between 2 star or 4 star I would most likely go to the 4 star simply because it is rated higher.

    Wrong on two counts:

    1. There are a lot more than 1% of the members who understand that there is a PR-SERPs relationship (see #2).

    2. "Pages that we believe are important pages receive a higher PageRank and are more likely to appear at the top of the search results." — ©2008 Google: http://www.google.com/corporate/tech.html.

That couldn't be plainer. There is a PR-SERPs connection.

For me, Serp's and keyword ranking is more important than PR.

Traffic and only Traffic, and it will come via SE ranking and ranking will come from good Back links (Relevant, in content and Good PR page links) so PR is still impotent in few cases, so think 80% about traffic and 20% about PR :)

One value of a good PR is that it does affect rank.

"Pages that we believe are important pages receive a higher PageRank and are more likely to appear at the top of the search results." — ©2008 Google: http://www.google.com/corporate/tech.html.

There is nothing obscure about Google's ©2008 declaration that higher PR sites are more likely to rank higher. I remain amazed that so many posters hold a theory different from what Google, the originator of PR, says about its positive impact on the search results.

Just like everything else with SEO, PR is not an exact science... but it does matter.

Just do a search for : home, and you'll see nothing but good PR sites on the first page.
