If you have found a great domain name, and you are about to register your .com domain, should you also register .net .biz and .info? According to go daddy, this will increase your traffic... (I know it's a sales trick, but do you recommend it?) Jens
I would though only if you really wanna spend the extra money, like if your site is gonna be massive.
I have never bought anything but .com either, but I started to think about it just now. I ended up buying .com and skipped the rest. I am not sure how this new project will end up, so I better not spend too much money on domains (well, it was really only $15 extra). I am writing an ebook about Internet marketing failure, and it will be stories about why people fail at Internet marketing. The domain I just bought is this: marketingflop.com What do you think? Jens
well, its a great idea to buy .net .info... and redirect them to main .com site. About your domain - it could be shorter
Would buying the other .net and so on bring in more traffic, or is it just a way to protect my domain? I tried to find a shorter name for my domain, but this is the only "good" relevant alternative I came up with Thanks for your feedback. Jens
I personally think buying the other extensions is purely to protect your company / site. Say for example you bought example.com and example.net / .biz / .co.uk were still available, anyone could purchase those domains and create a site which would target your site in a bad way. Plus domains are fairly cheap these days and buying 3 - 5 wouldn't hurt your wallet.
I would only buy if you plan on developing into a serious site and want to make sure you don't run into problems in the future with people taking your domain name. When I plan on developing, I don't go passed the .com/.net.
.com is worth the most because it's a commercial domain. .biz is Busines domain and .info is only for Giving Information. So i would sugest .com because than you have the most options.
I would buy .net in addition to .com. .Biz does not seem to have a reputation, so I'd not go for it. If your site is information site - it makes sense to go for .info domains. For example, domains like CreditCard.info, Emergency.info are valued very high at the market rate.
I have few .net, .biz and even .ws . Those domains works great for me even this is the main domain for website.
Probably not gonna get you more traffic but the only reason why you'd buy another extention is to protect the name. If doing so, probably going to the .net would be the furthest to go IMO.
