Hi everyone, I've got a blogger blog but another guy who I came across while dropping Entrecards suggested I change to my own domain and Wordpress. I even asked if I could just get a domain and still use blogger but he said there's a problem with comments, can anyone tell me why I need a domain and wordpress, and if I do need this then what will happen to my blogger and the other accounts I've already got like BlogCatalog and Entrecard. Thanks.
Hi, With blogger you don't own the content; they can suspend your account for something and there isn't much you can do. Also why do all that work for something you legally can't sell as it's not your property? Domains are dirt cheap so is hosting. Send me a PM and I will recommend a host; I'm using it for the blog forum in my signature without any problems; I'll even pay you part of the affiliate commission
Hi - Dubz already gave you a good comparison, so I will just tell you that WordPress is like Blogging on steroids... but you control how much you want to do with it. How? There are over 1,800 plugins for WordPress including ones for SEO, Social Media (a great PodCasting plugin), structuring your content, etc. You can choose how many to use (see some good articles at "WordPress CMS Help"). Guess what... there's even a plugin for Entrecard. Best of sucess - Scott
If you worry about the comments revealing your blogger platform then I suggest you hide it with www.intensedebate.com comments system A kind of
wordpress all the way. much more flexible and allows you to build a phenominal looking site, with excellent control over your content.
My vote is also for a self-hosted Wordpress blog. If you're interested, I can post all the plug-ins I use on my own blog (no conflicts with each other). They sure do help get the job done as painlessly as possible!
Blogger is good for a beginner, but eventually you should make the switch over to self-hosted Wordpress.
By getting your own domain name and webhosting account, you can freely customize every aspect of your blog by using Wordpress. Wordpress is simple to use but very effective at the same time. You can also get add-ons which will make it easier to optimize your blog for submission to search engines.
Other than general utility and better use of it is there any reason to switch. As cheap as it is I would never want to pay for blogging. Blogger works fine for me and what I want to do. As long as I don't decide I want to go way customized is there any reason to switch? -Tom
As long as your blogger account is meeting all your needs then I don't think there's a good reason to switch to self-hosted. However, once you get into a full-blown Wordpress blog your eyes are "opened" to the real power of blogging. It's sort of like a car: we really just need it to get from point A to point B. But it sure is nice to have an AM/FM radio, CD player, GPS nav system, A/C, heater, etc.
Ok, more of you are telling me I should seriously think of wordpress, but how do I move the posts I've already written? Can it be done or should I just not worry since my blog is so new, you can see what I mean if you check out my blog mattmetrodude.blogspot.com
This is yet another reason to dump blogger! Here's what they say: Since you don't have many posts I would just copy and paste into a new self-hosted WP blog. When you post in WP you can set the date/time of the post so you can match it with your posts on your blogger account.
Aye, thanks for the heads up travor, I never even thought about being able to export my posts from blogger, I'll go and register a domain name now, cheers pal
You might need webhosting to go with that domain to. Check out our site for more information: www.electro-host.co.uk
