The main stream Chinese opinion are that Tibet as well as Taiwan are an unalienable part of China. I do agree with that as I cannot see how Tibet is ever going to get its independence. Resistance is futile.

Though I do not see anything wrong about giving Tibet some autonomy which was requested by the Dalai Lama all along. From what I know he is never behind any of the violence in Tibet and is supporting China in its quest for Olympics. Tibet being a minority tribe in China occupying some of the harshest land does not in anyway threaten China sovereignty even if they are given the autonomy that they requested.

I have not been following those free Texas movement. Scotland and Northern Ireland I had not heard of any substantial pro-independence movement either. France wise, IMHO I would say that they segregated their poor and racially different countrymen to their inner cities. Situation was so bad that for those inner cities, police won't dare to enter without being in full force. That would be more towards their internal social systems and politics. Given that China jealously guarded their internal politics and systems from external interference, would it be appropriate for a Chinese to ask for comments on these?

The Dalai Lama was in the news urging for a stop to the violence and even threatened to step down. Given that the Chinese population are a majority in Lhasa and given that China had an armed militia forces of more than 40 million, I am sure that the common folks would be well protected. From what I read, they did beat up the Chinese migrants, but were they killed? I think even if one was killed China would have made it headlines. But how many Tibetans were killed?

How do you ascertain that what anti-cnn provided is the truth and nothing but the truth? Pictures speaks a thousands words but one sided interpretations of pictures doesn't really convey the whole picture.

If you think about it, how many times have there been protests in the last 100 plus years of the olympics?(yes I know they have been going on longer). All the boycotts, issues and politics that surround the Olympics. Any country that is hosting the Olympics will always have some other country who is against their government foriegn and domestic policies protest them. There has been some violence at several of them over the past 30 years or so. There was the Atlantic Games with the bombing, the Mexico games, and the 1972 Olympics.

The reason why I say that because I come from China and living in China. I have classmates in Lhasa, and I trust them.

Where are you from? Have you ever been to Lhasa?Have you investigated the public opinion in China? and how you get news regarding Lhasa?Do you have evidence to prove the news you got correct?

I really think there is too many bandwagon jumpers on this issue. Not only this though, everyone's just trying to take a poke at China right now.

Asking for a bit more autonomy for Tibet isn't meant to poke China. It is to help a poor tribe whose voice would never be heard other wise.

I'm refering to the government. Just like the taiwain issue. US would poke at it for a bit, and China will response by not going againist USA's war with and in return US doesn't support taiwain as much.

It's just countires way of saying "Hey, China give me something in return and I'll shut up"

In terms of the people protesting, majority of them just bandwagon jumpers. They don't know half of it and they already marching around with the banners. If you want to complain about China's human rights. Come up with a solution of what you think can be done then go and protest it. Not just for tibet but for China all in general.

In terms of seperating Tibet from China, I just ask why and where is the justification in doing so?

Another thing I find funny is how they use the word Cultural Genocide. Genocide is a big word. Racial Genocide is like the worst thing that can happen in a country but Cultural genocide in this term is an overstatement.

Some people see China spending millions building railroads and developing tibet as a good thing. But the people that oppose it say it's cultural genocide because they are modernizing it and you all know when you modernize a country some culture is usually lost, just like anywhere else.

So depends what you want and how you look at it. But saying Cultural Genocide is an overstatement.
