Just a quick question, started a blog for just pictures, to optimally get it ranked in search engines, should I put <alt> tags on EVERY picture? I have about 400 up and am going to add more (into the thousands). Advice?
The question should be thrown back at you. Do YOU want people with user agents (e.g. browsers) that can't see images to know what those images represent? Some people have images turned off - but may turn them on if they find an alt attribute that says the image is of "blingman nude". Other people with impaired sight might use a screen reader to do some internet research for their sighted friend who is in the market for buying a picture blog like yours.
Nice point. And speaking SEO-wise alt tag is only way to make graphics work for you. Think about Google Images. If you want to put on site pictures which link to another pages alt tag relevant to content and title is a must. So, yes, use alt tags.
Do you even know the difference between the following.... 1. Tag, element or attribute? 2. alt "attribute" and title "attribute"? If not, let me know I'd gladly explain.
My bet, thought about attribute. If I'd let you know it'd be only by PM not to reveal my ignorance to general public
if you view the cached text (ie the view google sees) of your page, no pictures are displayed. Rather than the picture, the alt text is shown. Could this mean that the alt text for a picture is the same as anchortext to the googlebot?
Hey now, I was just pointing out the in accuracy in your correct statement. Lets not confuse the new web developers anymore than they already are.
So, i think you got your answer, but choose different different keywords for each image, If you have Gallery of "Maria Sharapova" and on one page 10 images are there, than choose keywords which are different from each other.
Oh you got me wrong, I wasn't offended by your post. The "ignorance" part ought to be rather autoironic, as what I wrote could really be confusing. No hard feelings EOT
