It's hard to answer straightforward to post about Google algo's and its penalisation policy, because we don't know much.

I see this like that - Google can't ban you for such a thing because if it would ban for this your competition could wipe you out of Google SERP in one simple move.

Anyway, I know dozens of people who will swear to their mothers health that big G penalised them for having lot of backlinks from the same IP. And I'm ready to believe it.

You just don't know what Google will do, because they won't tell you this simple and plain. They just can't, if they did that today, tommorow their SERP's were useless in terms of real relevancy.

    Regards,

I've penalized some sites with a lot of backlinks from one site.

I'm not saying that it was too many links from one site, as it may have been too many links too fast.

If your site has a fair amount of backlinks already, normally this does not hurt. But be cautious until your site has a well balanced base of backlinks.

yes and no, the only way they would really know is if someone told them out of all honesty. Google is not as complexed as what they make it out to be.

google has a "more mixed" algorithm and it is hard to say anything. But generally yes it can.

I have have a pr4 directory and now it is pr0... And i do not make any spam etc.But i have 5 sites on same ip blocj and link each other.

One of the many factors Google looks at is to see if a certain percentage of the links to your site come from the same "C" block of the IP address.

To Google, a "typical" webmaster can't possibly handle more than 200 sites - so any number above that will easily trigger a flag in the algorithm to closely look at the sites linking to each other via their WHOIS database...

I think that "penalized" is the wrong way to think about it. The better way to think about it is whether or not the links count in the first place. Off site factors won't kill your site so much as they could end up being neutral. Otherwise, a competitor could blast your site with a billion spam links on a spam domain to make your site look spamtastic. However, it's not links on other domains that get you in trouble, it's stuff on your own site.

you cannot get penalized for lot of links form same IP or sitewide links. google may not give you credit for each links seperately, but you cannot get penalized. think about it, if that was the case, your competitor could buy ton of sitewide links to wipe you out. look at the link sales forum here on DP. some members have well over 10k posts and they are selling sig links as well as using thier own site links in the sig. thats your link on thousands of posts. webmasters with that kinda reputation know what they are doing. so i say you cannot get penalized, it just depends on google algo how much weight those links get

i think thats building links too fast. happened to me too once and i should have known better :)

Yes, 2 major things were brought up which are true:

    1) Other companies would be penalizing their competitors if it was possible.
    2) It won't HURT you, but it won't help you much either.... There's many other ways to build backlinks so getting ones all on the same c block just isn't worth it, unless it's quick and easy.

IMO, it won't hurt , but if Google find too many links from the one website only, it may stop to pass PR from these links,
Google may panelized the website which is giving you so many links, considering it as a sold text links.

It cannot hurt you. If it could you would get banned by your competitors.

Anyway, it is always better to get links from many IPs. Check my signature link if you want some free links.

i think the site might get banned if it gets a lot of links from same IP sites in a short spam of time.

    Thanks...
