    Hi,
Common SEO mistakes leading your website to death,I focused on some point thees are given below:
    1: Using Graphic Header
    2: Graphic Navigation Menu
    3:Cheating with the Search Engines
These SEO mistakes are minor but lead a website to its moral death. Search engines exclude such websites from their index list and even they are not praised by the web users.

Nothing wrong. I think every good SEO specialist can deal with it

    Same as above

Yes, its obviously wrong. But cheating and spammy methods like hidden text aren't helpful when you're trying to achieve top rankings for most competetive keyphrases. So they propably won't help, but they can seriously hurt your site.

Black hat seo can help your site but if the SE finds it, your site can be banned forever...
I suggest keep it white and be patience...

I agree when you are talking about imagemaps, but images are not the way to kill your site ;)

Perhaps you would care to elaborate as to why these things are bad.

I'll warn you now - I'm typically not too kind when replying to these types of threads (I'm brutally honest when it comes to reviews).

Not necessarily. If you're talking about the site's logo, then using a graphic is the BEST thing to do. If you're talking about a page heading (which is NOT a header), then I'd agree with you. However, using an image substitution technique such as Gilder/Levin is perfectly acceptable.

This is just a mistake, plain and simple. In fact, it's a crime against humanity. I'm not saying to use just text for your menus, but if you do use images, make sure they're served as CSS backgrounds, and that the text (again, like any image substitution technique) is still available to the user if the image cannot be displayed. A good example of using images for menu items properly (as in "this is not a mistake but a best practice") can be found here: http://www.pmob.co.uk/temp/navimagereplace.htm

Cheating is cheating is cheating. There's nothing "minor" about it. If you don't believe me, ask former baseball superstar Sammy Sosa. His career nearly ended right there on the spot when he hit that foul ball that split the corked bat he was using wide open.

are you really expert in this field? i see flaws in your tips.. your first two tips aren't actually bad... only the third.. and that third thing you mention is very broad.. there are soooo many ways of cheating the search engines, cloaking is one.. even keyword stuffing and getting more inlinks from link farms..well, these things are things that Google are now particular of.. not a single page can hide from GoogleBot and be penalized.

Probably because there's no such thing (structurally speaking, anyway) as a header in HTML. Now, HEADINGS on the other hand...

I think Graphic headers aren't problematic to seo, in the end, the SE sees only a brief code there, however it's important to remember that whatever you write there is not recognized by the robots.

However, the alt="' attribute text will be read - since they can read that.

depends on what yo mean by cheating. cheating with SE to some extent is a must for SEO success. SEs like to see a site getting backlinks naturaly but how many of our sites get natural backlinks? its easy to say that if you create a site with quality and unique content, people will link to you. comon, we are webmasters who are interested in making money so our sites will be focused on making money at the end. yes, i have some good informational sites and do get few natural links here and there, but i must continue my link building campaign to get ranked high. buying links, article posts/review, paid forum posts, blog commenting with URL anchor text, etc is not something SEs would like us to do. wouldn't that be considered cheating of some sort?

Doing anything that violates the search engines' terms of service - which usually if not always has the end result of harming the user experience for those who don't have a fully capable modern browser (or who have one but have chosen to neuter its capabilities or had their browser's capabilities neutered by their employer's IT department).

Like Hell it is. Anyone who says they must cheat to be successful should be ashamed of themselves. Especially considering that in the end, cheaters never prosper - karma always comes back to bite them in the butt eventually. And she can be a very cruel mistress when seeking her revenge as well.

Mine do - as well as the sites I create for others. It's NOT hard to do. The only links I'd consider to be "unnatural" that are still legal and ethical would be directory submissions - but I consider those to be "Seeding links" anyway to "get the word out".

You're right - it is easy. And if you know your target market well and can either establish a relationship with them or already have one, then getting the word out to them that you have a new site will be a piece of cake. Especially if you made it easy for them to talk about it, both online and offline. I have not one but two Web sites coming up later this year which will be doing just that. Don't be surprised if a major Web development company helps promote one of them either (like I said, it pays to know people). ;)

That's normal. The only way you'll get others to talk about your sites (and linkt to them) is if you tell them they exist and why they should use it. That's Word of Mouth Marketing 101. You may have the best site since sliced bread, but it's not going to do you a lick of good if nobody knows about it.

Not excessively anyway, for the most part. You can (and should) nofollow the paid links, you should have links back to your reviews (especially if they're syndicated to avoid duplicate content issues), and as for the blog commenting I'd check with the owner first to see if he or she allows it to begin with (though if you're going to do that, you just as might as well ask to become a guest blogger so your link will have a lot more eyeballs focused on it, say via an author byline). The only thing I'd consider to be "cheating" would be the paid forum posting. That's just post-padding and thread-crapping, and borderline SPAM to me, and I want nothing to do with it (as a forum administrator and moderator on several forums, I deal very harshly with those types of posts when I see them).

With the exception of paid forum posting, not as long as you do so correctly.

But in the end, it seems to me like you need to rethink your marketing and promotion strategies. (By the way, I loved your bitter melon blog entry - got any more information on it? Your article left me wanting to learn more - why not provide some additional information or resources for those who want to learn more about it - especially someone like me, who has three diabetic relatives - one of which is due to give birth to her first child in a week or so.)

As for graphic headers, I see so many "header.jpg" listed as the header. Its an image. You can call it "mynich.jpg" and use alt= and title= on it as well. I'm experimenting though with a non-graphical header on a couple of sites, just used an <H> tag with a larger fancy font to see if it helps. It does indeed help your site when your main keyword(s) are at the very start of the page!
