Its not really that important for anyone outside Tibet. Honestly, I think its just that people like to protest, and why not pick China as the perfect target?

It is important for its people, the Tibetans, but strategically or economically, it has near zero effect on the global stage. It is not really picking on China, just that they are a separate country annexed by China and they requested at first for autonomy which the Chinese refused. Sad to say that they have to depend on their own as they really do not have the strategic value for any super powers to intervene.

Isn't that what counts the most.
The people of tibet want the dalai lama amongst them.

It is what counts most, but in the world, it is hardly that one gets one's wish especially when you have a powerful country staking its claim on your land.

So true. It's heartening that so many people [individuals not countries]
    care for little tibet.

Judging by the apparent strength of the protests and the number of supporters.

You see all these protests around. That seems to show what tibetans want.

How to vote if a poll for that question is not allowed?
It seems (!) that at least the natives would prefer at least some kind of independency.

The Dalal Lama was advocating autonomy, but the Chinese authority refused to hold talks with him.

China gov., publications try to prove that Tibet is inalienable part of country. They published the historical records that showed Tibet had been under juirsdiction of the central government for more than 700 years since the Yuan Dynasty(1271-1368)

That is a slight problem with this claim, Yuan Dynasty was by Genghis Khan, a Mongolian, does that mean that Mongolia can claim China and Tibet as a alienable part of their country?

Perhaps people are more sympathetic to the Tibetans because they don't attack and kill innocent people. The Tibetans don't smuggle weapons instead of feeding their own people. The Tibetans are not committing suicide attacks on the Chinese. The Tibetans are not voting terrorists groups into power.

I don't see too many pictures of all these starving Palestinians anyway. Where are they?

Chinese police have detained 953 people suspected of involvement in riots in Tibet last month, the head of the Himalayan region said on Wednesday but added that they were a minority who did not represent the Tibetan people.

China has blamed Tibet's exiled spiritual leader, the Dalai Lama, for monk-led protests that turned violent in Tibet's regional capital, Lhasa, last month. The unrest spilled over into nearby Chinese provinces that have large Tibetan populations.

It will be hard to control stiuation for China gov. Will China arrest Dalai Lama ?

Dalai Lama is in exile, so he is safe, problem is he is getting old. Whats the worse thing that can happen is if he passed away, the Chinese may manipulate the reincarnation process so that a new Dalai Lama under the control of the Chinese would be recognized. The Panchan Lama, the 2nd in hierarchy is already under Chinese control. Tibet is under China control so it would be easy for China to claim a reincarnation of Dalai Lama should anything happen to him.

Human rights is a basic rights that should be given not as a privilege but as a right to anyone in the world! This is definitely a must and I hope Tibet gets it too.
