Hi pros. I have a problem that's probably dumb and easy to fix. I'm new to the webmastering role and just got a shared host account @ 1and1.com. I registered the domain name through namecheap.com and have the DNS forwarded to 1and1.com. (ns57.1and1.com and ns58.1and1.com) I have ftp'd the files and 1and1 requires an index.html file in the root directory. It's there but the default landing page still shows up. The site is www.bananaprofits.com You will see what it's supposed to look like if you type in www.bananaprofits.com/index.html (it's full of broken links and it's not done yet, so please just ignore that) Please help! Thanks Scott The Big Banana
You need to login in your ftp and rename: Index.html into index.html Web page file names are case sensitive. Your home page needs to be named "index.html" but "Index.html" or "INDEX.html," for example, will not be shown when someone visits your web address. Also, be sure your file includes the extension .html. If your file name ends with .htm, you may need to resave it as an .html file. Will work! Robert
Thanks for the suggestion nethelp, but it's already named exactly: index.html Next suggestion please. Thanks, Scott The Big Banana
If that is not working, when did you changed your DNS? and did you tried to contact 1and1 support? I'm with 1and1 too and I get a reply in 6-12 hours always from them and never had problems.
I forgot to ask, point also the wild CNAME *.yoursite.com to 1and1 servers (in case you haven't done that).
The control panel setting for this gives me a warning box that I have to sign off on if I change CNAME: "I am aware and accept that all current DNS settings, e-mail addresses, and forwards will be disabled." Do I want to do this or is it something else? Hmm, I could copy them and see. I'll give that a shot. I was unable to locate this. Thanks gang! Scott The Big Banana
Alright! I guess it didn't like the files on the / directory, so now that I've copied everything over to /www, it works great. Thanks much!!! Scott The Big Banana
