I don't get the point. A few random acts of violence by a very small percentage of servicemen doesn't do much to negate one, if not the most gracious and benign postwar handlings in history.

I wouldn't feel good but war is hell and they started it. My point is that we shouldn't be held to such a greater standard than the rest of the world. If it were any other country they got into it with, and treated the prisoners of in such horrible ways, their fate would not have been nearly as good. You can always pick out a few bad apples if you want to emphasize the negative. I'm just saying compare the actions of the US's handling of the war to all other major powers in history.

Turn the tables, imagine a world where Germany and Japan won and Japan occupied us after the war. Given how they treated the Chinese and our prisoners during the war, how do you think things would be here? They'd be a hell of a lot worse than things are in Japan right now.

What did Germany do when they occupied a country? Did they feed them tea and read them bedtime stories before they mass murdered them?

And I do believe the use of the A-bomb saved lives ultimately.

 

Childish response. Who started the war does not remove responsibility for how you conduct yourself in it. Besides, there is a very good case coming out now that we provoked the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor.

Besides the point I think we don't even meet the same standard as everyone else, why not a higher standard? Isn't our projection of force based upon our supposed higher morality?

So, if I could make a case for saving a lot of lives, say 500,000, would it be ok for me to kill you, your friends, your neighbors and your family? What's that, maybe 300, 400 people? Is that morally justified in your view?

Like many people, you have a hypocritical position. You justify killing or hurting others, in a manner you would never tolerate being used against you or your own.

 

My point is that we have lived up to a higher standard than most nations with even half the power that we have.

Yes. Especially if you help prop up a platform for that nation to rebuild so that millions and millions can prosper and live free for generations to come, which is what is happening in Japan and Germany.

Actually, Jeremy, I was aware of what you wrote. But as it moved from an asinine comment made by an ass to a "theory" of Obama/KKK involvement, it was time to bring in the baselessness of this, as well. These threads have relied on nothing but innuendo, rumor, e-mail hoaxes, smears to make the mere patina of a legitimate claim, so - between Baidu, giving a nod to web trafficability, and this - nothing new here, "next," in other words.
