    Hi,
I dont know weather i am posting this in the right section but i think there will be no problem..

we are starting a forum and we are expecting to get huge traffic to the VB forum..

right now we are planning to buy the shared web hosting plan.
but what if we later on have to put it to dedicated..

will transfering vb from one host to the other create problems or no ?...

it won't create any problems if you follow the right procedure... It should be pretty easy though

Nope, it won't create any problems, and if you do it right you won't have any downtime either :)

A high traffic vbulletin forum will NOT do well on shared hosting. Semi dedicated or VPS or even decicated will suit you better.

Having gone through about 10 different hosts with a high traffic myspace resource website, i honestly say that you get what you pay for. All this crap about Massive amounts Bandwidth and Storage space is just a gimmick. You will hit memory or CPU limits way before you get anywhere close to the bandwith/storage they give.

After numerous changes and downtime, I went for a 256mb VPS with wiredtree and they have been great, no problems whatsoever and I know I can upgrade my account to bigger VPS or dedicated server with a quick phone call. Been with them for about 8+ months now and added more memory to my VPS once - now 384MB, was a very simple 5 min change + no downtime.

I'd suggest you to with a VPS or Dedicated hosting.. Normal shared servers may not withstand the pressure.

If you are sure right from the beginning that the traffic will be huge, why don't you plan for a dedicated hosting now itself. You can avoid the hassles later :)

I have had no problems migrating forums, however if the database is HUGE and i mean realy HUGE then it can get a bit tricky later

You can buy a share hosting from hostgator.com for your forum,if you need a dedicated server, you can update your share hosting to a dedicated server. And you do not need to transfer your vb forum from one hosting to another.

    Good luck.

no, that happened to me, but you can just go to cpanel -> backups and save it from there, you can also restore it from there, without using the phpmyadmin, because that will not work for big databases.
