Yes Italy is another overlooked Campaign. Its where my great uncle lost his mind after going for a walk with a friend - his friend disappeared in a red mist - it was only then he realized they were in the middle of a mine field - He had to wait hours for the sappers to find a path out for him - all the while being near what was left of his friend - no wonder he was never right after that.

Yes shame the American General was more obsessed with Capturing Rome for his own glory instead of trapping the German Army in Italy as he was supposed to. How many lives this man's ego cost will never be known.

Anzio was a failure at the start. US patrols entered Rome in jeeps on the day of the landing and there was nothing to stop the Americans from pushing into Rome. The American commander dug in and allowed the Germans to bring in enough forces to counterattack. The German attempt to drive the Americans into the sea took a lot of pressure off the Russians in the East.

Still Italy was hardly the soft underbelly of Europe. Alot of kiwi fought in Italy - hated in Casino for bombing the monastery, yet loved north of Venice for saving them from the Yugoslavians

    Glad that you asked :D

US forces were fighting at Anzio beachhead from 22 January-24 May 1944. The German Fourteenth Army at Anzio, totaling 135,698 troops by 15 March. This figure does not include German troops fighting in Southern Italy. The German offensive against the Anzio beachhead drew significant offensive forces from the Russian front including many armor and Waffen-SS divisions.

    1. US forces where deployed in Italy fighting the Germans.
    2. US strategic air compaign was destroying German war production.
    3. US buildup in England was causing Germans to deploy significant combat units to France

this topic goes over and over :) Take any history book, and you'll find out everything. Surely, anyone can say that their country played the main role though, but the book wont say that (I hope :))

    Battle of Stalingrad
Thats just one battle, do we need to compare more?

The United States could not play a main role just because its ocean away from Germany and Europe (if we think locigally). I think someone said it earlier, thus its overrated imho. They did help, but not extremely to the point (like without US, everything would fall and the Europe would've been taken by Hitler).

The issue with Roland was that hitler sent a lot of jews from other parts of Europe to be killed their so while they didn't in Poland, they really weren't polish, not a lot of them

It wouldn't of have been long before London fell, at which point Germany could of shifted its forces to fight the Russians. Also lets not forget how far into Russia that got in. The Russians were lucky that they were able to hold of the Germans until winters which the Germans were not prepared for clothing wise. Had this been a spring offensive Russia would of have fallen to the Germans.

Europe was already taken by Hitler and he was half way into Russia, He was bombing London on a daily basis, and to assume that the British could of bounced back and driven Hitler out of Europe on their one is just wishful thinking

Russia could of taken Germany out without the help of US. By the time US the tables had already turned.

It's like in counter strike, where you basically are about to kill a guy and then your teammate comes out and finishes him off after you did all the work. It's called stealing a kill :D

Yea just like they were wipping them in WWI. Russia couldn't have started a strong enough offensive to drive all the way to Berlin, and win.

Remember it took all the Allies working together to do that.

Someone needs to read history books again. It seems to me that you guys in US have one history and rest of the world other.
But yeah, the rest of the world don't like you because of your freedom...

So your saying that Russia was winning the war with Germany? If they were why did they surrender before the was over? When COMMUNISM took over the country.

If you don't like me because of my freedom. TOUGH LUCK:D
