I think it is a great idea Sawyer. Just if you can perfect it will be the thing. If you have the idea, do it. Don't wait. That is how you lose out.

Thanks guys. Yes, I'm still in the planning phase right now, but I believe I have some really good ideas. I believe the best way to discourage cheap customers is by having people who don't do the services for cheap, that's the best way I can put it.

Thanks for the encouragement and advice. Trevomanut, I don't have the site set up yet, I'm still in the pencil/paper phase of creating it, but as soon as I do, I will let you know. Maybe you could send me your e-mail address through PM and I'll e-mail you when I open the site for beta.

Keep the advice coming guys, it is greatly appreciated.

I've worked with great programmers and absolutely lousy ones. How would you prove to a prospective customer that your guys are top notch? How would you "prove that someone is good". I would be very interested in using a site where the quality of work can be proved, delivery gurranteed, deadlines met, satisfaction gurranteed, etc...
I've used every one of those other free lance sites, I've used this site, plus others, and I have never been able to feel comfortable.
To be honest, all the awesome programmers I've found, I've found by accident, or some random site or a posting or something.

If you could get a few great programmers in one place, then that would be awesome. From what I've seen though, guys that are really good, end up not doing free lance work after a while, so you have to look for someone new all over again...

Please keep this post alive and let me know how it turns out.

you still have to consider that there is always a high demand for cheap labor no matter what the field... some people just don't want to pay too much for work or can't pay too much... but i agree that it is unfair to professionals when someone takes away the possibility of doing a job for a client because he is willing to do it 75% cheaper... what can be done?

Seems to be quite good idea - good luck!

But! it's not idea that counts, it's how you will fullfill it, and... who's gonna measure quality?

This is SUCH a good point - I won't even go on sitepoint any more, it makes me feel like an idiot.

Hi sheilasultani, wow, I am humbled that you think my post was good, doesn't happen often...

GFXology.com, the real reason for me posting here again is because I wanted to find out if you have done anything about this? Its that time of the year again where I renew my vision to be an independent earner, ie, not slaving away 9 to 9 (the next morning - yes, I have no life!).

Keep me posted if you don't mind...

    John

PS, Happy new year everyone, I hope this is the year we make our millions.
