Which do you think is better for a step-by-step affiliate moneymaking guide? The blog can be monetized hopefully and get backlinks etc., whereas the Ebook can be sold for a small amount and also contain affiliate links etc. Which is the better idea?

Yes, you have to upload it (usually on your own hosting) so that your customer can download it immediately once they pay for it.

why not do a combination of both ... make the first chapter or two free with a link to the blog at the end of it ... then get your pagerank up and more visitors by using something like this -> http://forums.digitalpoint.com/showthread.php?t=785579 to get it in the social bookmarking sites ... maybe by giving out the next chapter or two with that bribe machine ... and of course if your going to give out a pdf you may be able to use something like this - > http://forums.digitalpoint.com/showthread.php?t=782060 to increase return visitors by getting it to open your site as they close the pdf or maybe just offer backend sales ...

of course there is other people following this method ... me included ... and there is other people seling these scripts / software ... but I'm not going to do free advertising for them :)

PS if you or the mods don't like me having the links in this post please PM me and I'll edit it ... but its a valid sales / marketing system that needs the tools I'm linking to make the best of it :)

For the long term, a blog is better. For the short term, I'd say the e-book.

The correct answer is to do both. You write the ebook and blog about related subject matter in order to retain readers and to upsell them on other offers down the line.

Thanks for all the advice. So any good tools for creating these things, or do I just bust out Adobe Acrobat?

I've been looking as well for a software that creates PDF e-books. The e-book idea is indeed very well for short-term. It can also attract affiliates.

The blog is another long-term paying project. So you should really do both. Once bog gets backlinks, and get positioned in SE, you can earn from the ads. So it's a good income source for the longer term.

I personally like to read blogs rather than e-books...
Therefore to captivate ur readers, I would say start with blog and as the audience increases and interest develops, branch out into e-books section...
