Hi, I want to make an online subtitle database, where users can submit their subtitles to movies, like subscene.com. My site will contain much more and will be more advanced. Is it legal to have such sites, because the users will (I think so) upload subtitles to ripped movies (that you can download as torrents etc., and then download subtitles to)? I will NOT link to any illegal movies on download-sites etc. My site will only contain the subtitles, that users can download (subtitles will be hosted on my server). Can I get in troubles with a site like that?
You really need the advice of an Intellectual Property Lawyer. This is beyond the scope of normal domainers imho. Something tells me there are legal problems though. Lyrics of music are copyrighted so I can't see how the text of movies isn't.
But there's just many sites with these services, so I can't see how a site like that should be illegal.
Movies, just see what they say if you ask them directly. I always tend to do this for my projects and have only been turned down once
It depends on where you live in: http://polishlinux.org/gnu/poland-9-people-arrested-for-translating-movies/
