I'm really considering getting it. The shitty thing about about it though is that it's so expensive and costs more than dsl or cable..and is slower. I live way outside the city limits where only dial up or satellite is available. My current dial up connection is normally at about 49kbps. I pay $15 a month for my internet and about $26 a month for the phone line just for the internet. If I get satellite i wont need my extra phone line. Which package would you go with? How big a difference with this be when browsing? Is it worth it?
depend on your intension to go online and what purpose since you have only 2 choices dial up or satellite, you have to consider for thwta use very carefully and choose either one. also as in speed whats your dial up speed? if they are similar, stick with dialup.
I said in the first post that my dial up speed is normally at 49kbps. I spend half my life on the internet basically. Downloading, uploading, site building, promoting, blogging, etc. I can't use youtube with my dial up or listen to music. It takes 30 minutes for a 6 ,inute video to load. I've never experienced high speed actually. been a dial up user my whole life. I think I deserve an upgrade but hate the price for equipment mostly.
Well, looks like you want faster but don't have the cash. Just stick with dialup if you don't have money, atleast you can go on the internet, just at a very slow speed.
so satellite one already include phoneline too since you said you wont need extra phone line if you get satellite package? since you are already paying $41/m on phone + dialup 49kbps, $54/m for 512kbps + phone, then get satellite package
Have you checked out some wireless providers, they can be a bit cheaper, but dont provide the speed that you would get with satelite. Dont know what country you are in, but in australia the government provides a broadband guarantee and contribute to installation costs if you can not get broadband in your area.
Well, just wait for the medium connection to come available in your area, just stick it out with sucky dialup for now, can't be that bad since you have always been on it
I can't decide between the value pak and the select pak... how much of a difference will it make? is it worth the extra $15 a month for the select pak? The speeds they have say: up to 512kbps. from 49kbps to about 500kbps... should see a huge difference huh?
yes HUGE difference there already.. i would say do the basic pak for now and see how it goes. you can upgrade later right? because the modem or material fees seem to be same so assuming same to use with all paks.
If u talking abt HSDPA=3.5g satellite, is ok for normal browse, DL/UL but very poor in gaming (high latency) or almost no gaming and skype (always DC) I'm on 3.6mbps HSDPA but i feel like adsl 512 is much faster and stable .
I'd start with the Value Pack if i were you. When i first started using DSL, my connection got faster to 256kbps from 56kbps and it was a huge difference at the time, so you'll notice a big difference surely with the 512. You'll probably want to upgrade it after a while.
Well if you spend so much of your time on the internet then you obviously need faster speed.. why don't you get wireless? if you can't then I suggest you get select or pro.. if it was me I would get PRO lol because I am too much of a baby to stick with crappy speeds but hey that is just me.. just be wise about it and consider all your options.
for normal internet usages and blogging and such quality ones, high speed isnt a must, nolt for gamers though and only for online gamers
He mentioned youtube, that is something I wouldn't do with dialup. It is plain useless. He obviously needs faster speeds.
Among the two options, it looks tempting to go for satellite net. But I am always allergic to the wordings up to in the upload speed. It is one of the cheating methods employed everywhere by majority of the ISP including my ISP. If they say it is up to 256 kbps, it includes 2.56 kbps speed also. Get it verified and then take the initiative to get the satellite phone, if you can afford
I agree, if they allow short term subscription, avail it. There's no better way than trying it first hand.
