A pup or kitten will sure make your 4 year old child a happier lot. Get one soon :)

How about a goldfish? If he want something to pet I suggest a kitten.

Start with a fish, a beta is good then maybe a hamster, lots of fun to watch, my boys each had one when they where 4 and 6 and they loved them

A dog or cat because you can play with it. You can't play with a fish.

But I think the best is to leave it up to your child to pick.

Do you think this is the age for your kid to have a pet? Wait a couple more years before getting the children a pet. I really think he/she is a little too young to have a pet.

The pet I would suggest would be a rabbit! They are good all round pets, more cuddly than a hamster, but not as hard work as a dog/cat!!

Pets are a life long commitment, I won't recommend a pet for a child. The kid is too young to know what he wants. Pets are living creatures, they are not a fad to be played with and dump when your child lost interest. Get him a toy etc instead.

If a parent is willing to help look after the pet with the child I think its a great idea, it helps the child to learn responsibility!
How else do you teach children?
