Is it true that google (or other search engine) gives an advantage to older domains? No matter how good one optimizes his search engine results compare to the competitors he's still going to get listed next to them? If so how long does it last?
Yes.No.?. It is a grading system. The older your domain the more important it is to google in SERPs. However there are plenty more ranking factors that google looks for when ranking. So no old domains dont have to rank first always.
I don't think :important: is the right word...but more so, the more :trustworthy: it is in "their" eyes. I know once mine went beyond the one year mark, traffic from G increased dramatically.
You could argue that age makes better rankings but the site still needs to have good information and backlinks as all websites do.
G does give an advantage to older domains, but if you optimize better than your competition you will go higher.
This is my opinion on the subject, I believe the age of actual "web pages" has much more value than the actual domain name itself. I do believe that "some" type of value is added to aged domains, but the real value would come from the actual "web pages" age. Very few sites can add a new web page and appear in search results on top and stay there, yes they might appear #1 very fast but don't hold that position for long; as do many new websites. I wouldn't solely buy a domain name because of it's age, all major search engines have registrar companies as well and can tell if ownership as been transfered. Transfering of ownership may or may not have an effect on the value of the age. So, I'm putting this out there officially.... worry about the age of the actual web pages and not the domain name. I do concur that "some", even if a "little" value exists with aged domain names.
From my expierience I know two things for sure - the older domains are indexing faster, than completely new, and they can be linked more aggressively.
Just like an old friend you've known for years vs a new one you've just met. Who would you trust more? Of course, if that old friend start acting strangely, changing their behavior drastically etc., that would come into question also.
DPKing, actually even this is not true. I have some of my post on new site ranking in Top 10 almost instantly. They are still there even after 1 month now. Beating sites with PR 6 & 7.
