IE8 is fine if you don't look for details.. Although there are other browsers that lead IE in terms of layout and all.. I've been happy with IE8 so far for basic internet use though, and I hardly recognized the opacity problem.
For web developers, the people who have to write the markup and code to make web pages work, IE is the worst browser on the planet. Incapable of rendering simple CSS properly, it is 10 years behind web standards and not able to work with modern technologies, including XHTML, the DOM, proper javascript, SVG and much more. Because of this, the US Justice Department and several states have sued Microsoft, and the European Union is conducting a current investigation into their non-compliance. Though not out of beta, IE8 has shown a regression in capabilities. Some standard compliance properties that work in IE7, and even IE6, do not work in IE8. The above poster may not notice the opacity problem because opacity has never worked in IE so you can't miss something you've never seen. In the meantime, Firefox/Opera/Safari users have seen the benefit of this for five years or so. IE requires additional work by all web developers to make proper, modern code work in it. Sometimes requiring up to 50% more time and effort to produce a working page compared to ANY other browser. In the meantime, world-wide usage of IE is slowly decreasing while non-IE browsers, specifically Firefox, is increasing. In Europe, Asia and Australia, Firefox usage is as high as 50%, with the overall usage around 1 in 4. That is, 1 out of every 4 to 1 out of every 2 users around the world, use Firefox. In the US, the average is close to 1 out of 5. IE holds back the web due to its inability to use modern technologies and failure at current ones. There would be a big leap in web usability if everyone would stop using it. For an example of this, Google for Prism and XUL or XULRunner.
Well for me it is Firefox, no IE, but maybe I will install IE 8 when it is out just for curiosity sake.
Yeah perfectly said wisdomtool. IE 8 may be just for curiousity. Firefox is light weight and speedier then IE in many ways.
firefox is best... if u want to use only IE u have to use \IE6 after this version..all ersion are not working well
I have never used IE for 2 years until now... LOL. Just to feed my curiosity... Well it's not bad after all...
I agree. Some people just like to argue. If you find IE such a pain, don't use it, nobody forces you. This will be another FF vs IE thread...
Unfortunately, a lot of people do force us to develop for it. Are you using it? If so, then you are forcing us - developers have no say. I would more than happily stop coding for IE - as would most other developers, but we do, because we are nice. If we stopped coding for IE, everyone who used it would complain because no sites work in it - thus forcing us to code for it. As for using it, nobody forces us to, so we don't. IE7 was the most stable version of IE released and I had a lot less problems on it than I did on Firefox (Firefox throws a lot of Javascript errors my way, but that would be mostly because Javascript hates me), and Opera screws up less than both of them, so thats what I use. However, the more and more I use Safari, the more I am impressed with its rendering abilty (stupid form control prettiness aside) - but its interface is what is stopping me. And IE8 has more errors than any other browser I've used (post IE 5.0). They should switch to Gecko or Webkit rendering engines, which are just as widely supported as Trident, but with much better standards compliance.
.... first worserer is not a word. Secondly if you think about Iit E 8 is a beta, chill and let microsoft mess it up some more before you complain of it's issues.
Yes. I noticed you do without anything to back you up. Of course you are forced to. How many financial institutions require you to use IE? Many/most. They design using IE-only bugs so it doesn't work in any other browser. Less sophisticated users don't know any better and just use the browser automatically installed without realizing there is a choice. For those who miss the point of the thread.
Impossible. IE7 is 10 years behind web standards and has the poorest html, css, dom support of any other browser. IE has incorrect javascript and DOM support so that might be the reason. Never, ever trust IE for how things should work.
You're kidding me!!! I never knew that !!! You mean that when things get worse than worserer that it really doesn't mean it's worsererer?!!! It may be beta but you have to wonder about releasing a new version that has less functionality and support of standard items than the previous version. Especially when Microsoft says they are definitely eliminating functionality available in previous versions and ALL other browsers. That is the point of this thread.
