What if you can't help getting many backlinks from a single site, i.e. you got the links unexpectedly? Would you then be penalised? This has happened to me. Didn't seem to do any harm. On the other hand it didn't seem to do any good either!
I don't think its a bad thing but I would try to expand your reach and increase your backlinks from other sites. Good Luck
Same thing happened to me and I think I can explain. You were lucky enough to appear as "The latest addition" at the exact moment when the googlegot crawled the directory and usualy the "Latest addition" link is sitewide. When this happened to me I went and check for the links in the directory and there was only one in the right category, because my website wasn't the latest anymore. Things will be sort out at the next ibl update and you will probably end up with only one backlink from that directory. Anyway it could't harm your site so stay cool!
Google will ignore the backlinks if you get too many from a single source but won't harm you. Just to be in good books with the search engine, spread your links as far as possible and you are assured of more number of backlinks indexed by the google.
You're really comfortable with the present backlinks. Still if you work good with the directories, press releases and SB site submission, you'll get good number of backlinks...
Why do I get these loads of backlinks from a single website? Considering its a directory, does this means directory members are linking back to me, individually, through the directory site? How does this happens? Any ideas?
My site got thousands of backlinks here. It's quiet more than in your site but I not worried about this. These backlinks are legal. I mean it's came from a good source.
Google doesn't usually penalize sitewide links as long as they are mostly relevant and not from a bad neighborhood. I have seen too many top ranked websites with tons of sitewide links, so I just can't see how these would have a negative effect especially if they are from relevant websites. If anything, Google just wont value the quantity derived from sitewide links as much as they do the same number of individual links from different websites.
which directory did you submit too? which directory did you submit too? which directory did you submit too? which directory did you submit too? which directory did you submit too? which directory did you submit too? which directory did you submit too? which directory did you submit too? which directory did you submit too? which directory did you submit too? which directory did you submit too? which directory did you submit too? which directory did you submit too? ??????????????????????????????????
Similar thing happened to me, and I am cluleess why. I posted *one* comment on a blog last week, entered my URL - only once -now I appear to have dozens of backlinks from that site, with more steadily coming. It appears every time the blog has a new post, it seems to register as a another backlink for me? So 3 separate online tools tell me. I don't mind it hehe, but totally wondered why
