great idea, great website, but no follow through

Just out of curiosity, how many of you have a good idea, register a good domain name, and never wind up going past that point because the idea involves getting a physical prototype of a product made, hiring an engineer, or something that involves a lot of uncertainty or time?

Sometimes I look at those "as seen on TV" products and can never understand how the person went about getting the original prototype, testing it, getting the marketing research done, working out the kinks, then marketing it...when they're just an average person, and not in an engineering field.

 

I know what you mean, a number of months ago I developed a bit of a business plan for a new business that I was interested in launching, I did research and bought the domain with hosting, and that's it. I never got past that stage because I lost interest and got sidetracked.

I still have that domain and haven't yet used it. So far it was a waste of money, but I got another idea to use the domain that I'm currently doing. It won't earn as much as the original idea, but at least it will earn me some and turn that domain from a liability to an asset.

 

Desire, passion and a solid work ethic come to mind.

It's not just what or who you know, it's a little bit of both.

 

yep, that's happened to me numerous times in college, when i used to try to do things during my free time. some projects went well, but others...i used to stay up all night, create elaborate business plans, register a domain, get started on it, and end up abandoning it. but since i started a company right after graduating, i've been able to dig up those old notebooks and carry on with those projects. now that our company has almost a dozen employees, we're able to work on multiple projects- and best of all, complete them. in my case, it turns out that having a team is the most important thing. when i was on my own, i was free to start projects and abandon them. but with a whole group of people working togther, we check up on each other, motivate each other, etc.

 

It's more a problem of having too many good idea's and not having the time to realise them all.

i have a lot of ideas ,i already bought domains for them but i don't think i will develop them my self,i will probably hire somebody to do the work when i will have some funds
