    Not an obvious technique... Thanks for the tip Tazer Dude :)

    Would everyone agree that Aweber is the way to go? I know if I invest sign-ups using any other platform they go to waste when I try to migrate to Aweber.

    750 not bad probably hit 1000 before your all done. Do that once a month and nice chunk of change. One thing I have discovered and wondered if it would work on a list .... it works on web copy for me. Is to create scarcity with a product. You mentioned that the product is one that most people have been exposed to or already bought. How would one create scarcity with such a product ... by offering a one time free bonus?

    I have also noticed that some gurus create a little mistake with the original sales letter that has great sales copy buy a messed up link! thens the next day they send out another similar email saying they got it write.

    I am seeing more of these emails and I think it has a psychological effect or scarcity. One its sort of a pre-sales letter and two people who have clicked on the link now will want it even more. The guru then gets a second opportunity to send out a second email ... and it makes them look human because they made a mistake! I am seeing more of these types of emails. Sometimes its a messed up link or ... my server crashed or whatever but i find it too hard to believe this many gurus are having difficulty in the last year.

    I really need to get started on a list.

    So Flyrod do you use any scarcity techniques?

    What great ideas.. In a few months, maybe I will give it another shot. Before then, I will let my list double and get a good plan together!

    Now for some updated stats

    1602 emails opened
    598 clicks
    41 conversions

    I'm thinking of sending out a "half way through reminder" to snag some of the people who missed the first letter

    Thanks for the response. I have been like circling over this thread like a vulture waiting for its victim to drop (another post). ;)

    Any how this could prove to be an interesting long term thread on a list campaign and techniques that work. Maybe even a sticky of sorts.

    I brought up those points for you because as pathetic as they seem it seems to be a more common technique and if you think about the idea of scarcity or preselling using scarcity it seems to be a more common method among the so called guru's. Please keep us up to date.

    Just out of curiosity what was a conversion worth? I'm assuming based on the information in this thread is a conversion is worth about 25 bucks. Not bad I assume this campaign is over 1000 bucks? That is some serious chump change for a mailing!

    I agree and appreciate the insight.. This was merely a test email to see what good collecting emails actually does..

    A few good ideas stemmed out of it so far. Your "scarcity" angle, and the "warming up of the list" as mentioned by another. Things I will have to weigh and measure next round..

    On an affiliates end, conversions are worth between $34ish and $2 depending on the purchase. There are 60+ products.. The profits I see are different than the profits affiliates see though. I didn't expect the profit numbers to be used in a comparative way because this number can go in either direction based on the commission payout per each product..

    The main purpose in posting all this was to get some cold numbers out there for list owners and what to expect.. On a broad look, it appears as most emails go unopened:(

    I had a list several years back but stupid ol' me just let it go. I guess we are all allowed a few stupid things in life. Anyhow the scarcity principle can be found in a book called Influence by Robert Cialdini. It is one of the best books I have read in some time. I liked it so much I had to put it in my sig i think I only get like 50 cents a sale so its not a big deal I have better things to promote in my sig but I was hoping others in this forum could gain from it. If your feeling lazy this late at night you can just click on the second link in my sig or just run down to B&N to get it.

    I would be interested to hear how you built up your list if you don't want to share here just PM me.

    Well, since I sell recordings, I offer a 10 minute free sample VIA Opt in

    This serves several purposes. First to capture email addresses. Second to give users a taste of the product. Third to prove my claims are real, and forth to prevent refunds because they know exactly what they are buying.

    Thats the extent of my list building. Just a form on the store pages

    Actually its a great idea. I was wondering if offering a 10% discount code for anyone signing up would allow for further opt ins. I would suspect maybe but if they are already interested in signing up for the free sample then they would probably not be encouraged any more by a 10% discount on a purchase. Unless you offer say a 10% on multiple purchases.

    Just thinking out loud. Interesting thread though. Be interested in knowing what your final conversions are by the 15th.
    Thanks ,,,

    Today is April 11th (11 days after the email blast)

    exactly 50 conversions and only 1691 letters opened!

    Out of the 1691 letters opened, around 3% of them converted.

    I don't get it, Aweber reported that it was successfully sent to 7237 people (after the ones that were undeliverable)

    out of 7237, only 1691 opened it! What happened to the other 5546 emails?

    Maybe spam filters caught the emails or maybe people are using free email accounts they don't check just to get the bonus.. 77% of the emails sent were never even opened..

    Makes me wonder if Aweber is really that great at avoiding spam filters

    This is a great learnin' thread flyrod. I just need to get off my donkey and check out aweber.

    Anyhow after reading your post it may be a good idea next time to tell the opt ins that the link for the bonus will be sent to the email they submitted. I don't know if that would help with conversion but I suspect it would.

    From what you said it sounds like once they submitted an email they were given a download page. Am I correct?

    It would be interesting to know the title of the email you sent out like .... Here is Your Free Bonus You Requested .... etc

    Remember I mentioned the guru technique of a downed server or bad link as an excuse to distribute another email. Well I subscribe to a lot of lists for info and stuff and I must admit I am seeing more of it since I last mentioned it.

    Anyhow keep us updated it it is interesting.

    So yesterday was the last day of the promotional and I got the totals in hand..

    Total conversions from the email= 72

    7237 total emails successfully delivered

    1792 of the emails opened

    689 clicks

    Percentages::::::

    10.44% of those who clicked bought a product

    1% conversion rate for all 7237 emails (even though only 1792 were opened)

    4% conversion rate based on the number of people who opened the Email

    24.7% opened the email

    38.4 of those who opened it, clicked a link

    ~~~~~~~~~
    Conclusion....
    Overall, best 2 week pay period I ever had. More than doubled my regular earnings, and pulled in multiple thousands more than any other 2 week pay period. Well worth the effort
    10.4 Conversion rate based on clicks is great, but what hurts is that only 24.7% opened the email.. Energies need to be spent to ensure more people are caught by the title so they open it..
    So if anyone is going to send a broadcast to their list, my recommendation is warm up the list so they are active, and make sure your broadcast title is catchy enough to get lots of people to open it..
    Project complete
    I wonder if some of those filters were not ones that are filtered by sender but software based that reside on a persons computer and are triggered by certain words or phrases!
    What was your total earnings?
    Also what do you think about the autoresponder from
    1stshoppingcart? Has anyone tried it? Is it good?
    I have to ask if phplist would have had the same results as aweber! It would be nice to hear from those who have used both when testing a list.
