I have had my Live football scores site going for about 5 days and the search term todays live football now gives me a ranking of 6 on google. The site is allscoresnow.com This search term is probably one of the worst i could do well with because it isn't really what the site is about, so the traffic i get to it from google i suppose will be pretty worthless. The question is, should i optimize the keywords to get traffic for other search terms, ideally 'live football scores' or just be happy with what i have. I am sure to get a 6th rank with 'live football scores' would be extremely hard. I am new to this and do not really understand why i have done so well with 'todays live football' Is it something to do with my meta tags, the title tag reads "allscoresnow - todays Live football scores'. Would changing this tag help. Could anyone who knows about seo more than i do see what can be done to my keywords. Oh, and would i do a lot better without the 'AllScoresNow -' in the title? Is it just wasted space? Also, i know Today's should have an apostrophe in, but a lot of those ranked higher than me have left it out. Is this purposeful? Just search todays live football to see what i mean. cheers for any help
I wouldn't expect this to last long, this happens to new sites sometimes. They'll rank high right away for there keyword for a few days than disapear into the index. You can search quite a few threads about this on DP. Your job is far from over, you need to make sure all on-page optimization is up to date. Then start the never ending process of off-page optimization. Plus, if your only 6th you would still have 5 more positions to over take. This is a good starting point: Stymiee's SEO Faq
You need to make it consistent. I got a first page on google once. and it did last only for three days.
You shud continue work for your site. You are getting ranking because your site is nwe & it happens as confirmed by one of member earlier. You shud target more than keyword. I am not saying do not work for your succeed keyword. If you are on 6 then try to get 5,4 & 3. Also target few more keywords & do work for them.
i also have a new website, about 2 months old and is now number 5 at google for the past weeks. i just also hope that it will maintain and increase in ranking. i guess all you have to do is continue the endless seo on page and off page process.
ok, thanks for the replies. I understand it may not last long then, but on a side note, for seo purposes should i get rid of the 'AllScoresnow -' in the title tag. Like i said earlier, is it just wasted space. Would i rank higher without it?
