I quit smoking. Again.

Okay, so Alen Carr's Easyway to Stop Smoking says you MUST keep smoking till you finish the book. It's only taken me three months to get through the damn thing and last night I ran out of excuses not to get to the last page.

Ritually puffed my last fag (as they say) before going to bed and became a non-smoker.

Don't know about the easy way. I've been thinking about nothing but ciggies all freaking day. It's been about 13 hours now...

Has anyone else tried to quit with the Allen Carr Easyway?

Yep. This'll be the third serious attempt. Stopped once for a year, once for thre months and then quit again this morning. Third time and hopefully last time.

I smoked for 13 years, about 1.5 packs a day. I loved to smoke. I tried cold turkey once and became the biggest a##hole - all my friends couldn't stand to be around me. lasted about 2 weeks.

My wife gave me a great idea. Smoke a pack a day for 3 days. Then after the 3 days, smoke only 19 cigarettes for 3 days, and every 3 days reduce the number by 1. This way, your body gradually gets used to smoking less and less. During this period, substitute smoking with chewing gum (sugar free). It helps.

I've been smoke free now for over 13 years, and don't miss it a bit.

The trick is not to start smoking in the first place! Easy for me as a non-smoker to say.

I had a friend who had a foolproof way of getting off the cancer sticks. He put all his old butts in a jar of water, left it in the sun for a few days to fester and then inhaled the revolting stench produced every time he wanted a cigarette. Worked for him.

Quitting smoking was easy for me.
I smoked for 3 or 4 years straight. Quit in a day no problems or temptations.

I don't want to give up smoking yet, I find it calms me down a lot and sometimes helps me, I know people say you need a better way to get yourself calm ect but I've tried lots of things, even them angry balls. They are funny because you get even more annoyed because it starts and hurt your hands after a while! :D

But yeah, some day somewere I will stop. :)

Congrats. I quit a few years ago and will not go back to that trap again. Just remember, that craving will pass whether you have a cigarette or not, so you may as well do the right thing and stay clean.

Cold Turkey is completely quitting one day and not weaning yourself off of them like some have advised.

I smoked super heavy from 16 trough to 23 was on camel non-filters and a pack or so a day. been off them for nearly 7 years now...good luck it does feel better without the cigs.
The way i quit was like this: went cold turkey...realized that the cravings only last as long a smoke does so 2-3mins at a time, so if you just stick to your guns for those few minute the craving tends to subside, the physical urges lasted about 2-3 weeks, the mental addictions stays for life. best thing you can do is convince yourself that you hate smoking...it turns you into the cliche reformed smoker and all your smoking friends will get sick of you, but it really helps to kick the habit for good. Finally when you are craving real bad, just have sex, may turn you into a sex addict but at least it is fun and good for your health!

Into day two. Not so bad. Occasionally when I glance at the new puppy he sort of morphs into a giant cigarette butt but apart from that I'm doing fine.

CountryBoy, that is a great idea. I found the smell of ashtrays disgusting even when I was using them so a festering pot of putrid dog-ends will be enough to make me hurl every time I think of lighting up.

Masticate - very, very true. Doing it for my kids. If I ever catch the little buggers lighting up though I swear I will break their necks.

Apart from brief interludes of sanity, I've been smoking for oh... about 25 years. I already know I will not ever fall for the 'just one', trap again and I just need to get through the next few days and I will be CLEAN for life.

Club Crawler - so you want to swap substance abuse with sex addiction... hmmm. I'll get back to you on that. ;)

hey I quit smoking for a year and starting up again recently. It took several attempts at quitting before I could go a year. I started smoking again for different reasons, but I don't smoke too much. I don't think it's about being a non-smoking or a smoker. If you want a cigarette then smoke one. If you want to be clean and not smell like smoke, then don't.

congratulations on quitting btw! it's probably better not to smoke at all though. =]
