Freelance Writing Income, $7k plus

As a DP regular, I usually come across a couple posts per day asking how members earn money online. While freelance writing may not be your thing right now, it is something that you should definitely try in the near future. Sure, it is more work than earning money via AdSense or another advertising medium, but in the end you will be happy with your income nonetheless.

Last Month I earned $7,532.21 through freelance writing, and this is far from tops in the industry. Being a freelance writer is not easy, but it is definitely a career choice to consider. If interested in my March income statistics and more, check out my most recent blog post: http://www.chrisblogging.com/freelance-writing-income-march-2008/

Not everybody will be able to succeed as a freelance writer, but those who do can earn a decent living online. Of course, if you have any questions message me here, or shoot me a quick email!

What was the average size of your projects? Most of the projects I've managed to do were reasonable amounts usually getting know larger than 4k or 5k words. That would only make me $40-50.

Also in terms of time equating to money, how much time does your writing take you?

How does where I live have anything to do with it?
When competition is charging .01 a word how can i expect to get any more business if i charge more? Check out the content creation forum on DP .01 a word seems to be the going rate.

But if 1 cent per word doesn't cover your cost of living? That's probably what SEOLinker meant.

No, that doesn't cover my cost of living, i've got another job. My question is though when the going rate is so low, how do you even begin to get more for your work?

It have a LOT to do with it. I highly doubt it's worth it if you live in USA and charge 0.01 per word. Mmm...it's not even worth it for me and I don't live in USA. I just curious how you survive on this rates.

Make it so that 0.01 will not be your competition. For example try to make it 0.02 per word on DP and you will still get orders like native speaker and so on.

Also make DP only like 5% of your clients overall. Advertise in other places. You will not make good living by getting jobs from DP.

I am not a native speaker. Actually I am in 3rd world country (Ukraine) and charge 0.03-0.04 per word in my country and still get paid. I am not even make it in English but in Russian.

DP is a market of buyer for about 2-3 years already, which means it's good to buy here but not to sell. And will be even worse overtime. Why ? 1) Low entry level (every person from Africa who know some English can enter and charge 0.01 per 10 words let's say cause it's free) 2) Webmaster market (which means not writing for decent websites, but for MFA and affiliate sites + they don't have a decent size budgets) 3) You may name your points:)

propstm - It is difficult to say the average size. I wrote some features of 1,000 words as well as smaller pieces that were only 250 words or so. I guess it all depends on the client, the scope ofhte project, etc.

Sweet - I do a bit of both. I have used bidding sites in the past, but more recently I have branched out into other ways of marketing myself...

Finding the right client is difficult , I presume. This sector is something that I've tried previously to "crack" but generally failed and other priorities took over. How would one go about trying to get a greater range of opportunities from non-web based content? That was a big difficultly for me .

Congratulations on the success! $7,532.21 is a lot of writing at $0.01 per word. I hope your wrists are ok. Are you taking advantage of any speech-to-text software?

students - Great to hear from you. Try bidding sites, as well as sending query letters; this will get you started for sure.

Derrick - No, that is not me writing for $.01/word! I try to keep my rates a big higher...
