Exactly, let's be honest and not hypocrites, a penalised directory is worthless for 99% of the submitters, let's not try to invent a new "fake" rating system just to trick people into submitting their websites.
you seem to forget that Google is not the only search engine in the world. There are penalised directories that have thousands of pages indexed on Yahoo, MSN, etc. after all...fuck Google.
Good point, my traffic on one of my directories from se's for march was from yahoo, msn, then google. In feb and im not joking it was msn first (yes msn sent the most) then yahoo, then google.
Only Google penalised and not other SE's And also there are many penalized directories where the quality of listing is good that Google's SE Rankings
When Google is known to be manipulating the visible PR, particularly on websites it suspects of selling links based on PR, what difference does it make what it shows? You need to be able to demonstrate traffic, and PR is pretty much useless for that in any case. Alexa is okay for demonstrating webmaster traffic but not so useful for getting a feel for how many general browsers are visiting. Compete.com data may also be worth a look.
never underestimate the power of pray Do not get discouraged about PR, just keep on doing what your doing. Make your directory quality for the people not Google
I checked few websites (decent traffic 100K+ pageviews a month) over an extended period of time (2 years), the traffic coming google is 25-30 times higher than yahoo+msn combined. And these websites are from various niches.
No, however my directory with the highest traffic is a niche directory with the following stats Traffic from search engines 95% breakdown: 1. google 94.44% 2. aol 3.63% (google powered). 5. yahoo 0.22% 8. msn 0.01% cnn (google search) sends me more traffic than msn. So if you are missing google traffic, you are missing a lot.
Well, PR suckes. i droped from PR3 to PR0. it took lot of effort to take it to PR3. but now after 2 months it is PR2. but now i don't care about PR. cheers:
It is a common trend. Google is starting to manually edit directories to PR0. This has been going on for at least a couple of months. Luckily PR isn't a huge factor for me. Personally I look at traffic rank, and other factors.
Come on. stop crying ladies. There is no business that last forever. Even Google will die some day or another giant will come. I spent nice time with directories, lost much more than you write here. But I'm not so unhappy. Still I have new and new clients with so various websites and projects. Hard to find free time. Also I almost finish a project with great perspective that will beat all my directories business hundreds times. Times are changing. Directories was great experience for many, this is very important, as it's only a matter of time when you find your way. Just be positive, look around. Wish you good luck as always. - D.
Because it is at the moment. Those few dirs that still run good is just micro-percent of all. It's far too less to start new project hoping it will succeed and stay for a while... The only reason to run directory is niche, and shouldn't be treated as business, rather as base of larger network. Or other way is to have hundreds of trash making pennies. Then penny+penny+penny makes nice amount. This doesn't mean that it won't change. But I doubt I'll be fully back to this business. Only support and helping those who ask. As I said - times are changing - there are other, much more interesting and also more profitable ways of making internet business. - D.
My directory went from pr5 to pr0 overnight, I said screw it and gave up. Maybe if some of you guys recover I will regret it but I don't find its worth the hassle anymore, I would rather concentrate on other sites.
It's not a good point at all, in fact its downright pathetic. I bet you a thousand pounds here and now (and I'll call in to give it to you if I'm wrong) that you would be devastated if you got de-indexed from Google. Your living in a pipe dream if you think otherwise. Pardon the pun. Show us your stats if that's the case, I for one would love to see them.
A positive outlook, when your having problems with one business it makes you expand into other projects, theres so many other things all of us can do out there.
