why would an asian company buy .asia? Normally do you think of any company as an asian company? I think Toyota, Japanese. I think MSI, taiwan. I think of companies as companies in their countries. There is even a trend in some of them (namely japan) to advertise what to search in google to get to their website rather than a URL itself. You think they need .asia? I think you're wrong. There isn't this asian identity in asia. It's a western name imposed on a region and a diverse group of people which I dont think they will associate with at all.

I agree with that too. Plus a 4 letter domain extension is kind of weird, I'm still trying to get over .info :)

from an end user perspective, i think only the premium .asia domains will be valuable and worth developing. Anything other than premium and you'd think you'd be better off with a not so flashy .com instead.

bull. if extension really didn't matter youd get the same price for .com as you would for any other tld. I am also curious, I looked at your list of domains, aside from the fact there are some TMs and typos, why are we associating english strings with .asia? Isn't this for the asian market? Doesn't that asian market have its own languages? There are just so many flaws with .asia it boggles my mind. Starting with the fact it is called .asia...

??? the only reason .coms are more expensive is because if you just type the name 9 time out of ten the .com appears. url and content matters and not the extension if TLD. please when you have a few class domains you are showing and have done 12 years in the business then please preach. Also, are you asking if the asian market has its own language?? are you sure matey - you need to either go to another country or walk do the end of the road, you will find out this is a multi cutural world we live in. they speak english and hindi and a million other languages - just like the U.S. ( you know, english, the language you attempt the speak )

P.S. Asia is not a county before you go down that route.

thanks why i bought yank.asia, its to go with my other domains for them, englishspeaking.asia, its not for ESOL or basic skills, its to teach dumasses that there are more places in the the world than LA and NY :)

I guess we'll see in the next few years who will adopt the extension.

Hate to break it to you bud, I lived in south asia for a couple years. I am half japanese. I *might* be familiar with the region. Your domain names suck to be blunt. You lecture me about having 'class domains' and 'in the business for 12 years' have you? You missed a huge boat if that is the case because you're trying to invest in .asia. Sounds like sour grapes to me. Your lack of knowledge of the domain business is amazing to me, yet you seem to like to run your mouth as if you have some sort of a clue. I was pointing out the obvious fact that there are many regions and languages and to use english strings and end with .asia is probably one of the stupidest extensions I have seen. And your argument about extension not mattering and .com showing 9/10 times? You really think that is it? Try the hundreds of billions of dollars (maybe trillions?) invested in branding .com over the past 15-20 years into consumer minds around the globe. That is why .com is valuable. .com is associated with any major corp, just having a strong .com has a tacit trust associated with it versus something like a .info, .mobi, .asia. Please learn to read and comprehend what others write before you post as well.

Is this scam? .asia want the most money as possible. They did not publish domain names that they reserve. When customer register it, registrar accept an application. Registrars get the fees and we lost money.
During landrush period, they let you registered domain names that were supposed to be auctioned for sunrise periods. They announced
the list of domain names registered in sunrise period on February,27 and landrush period started on February,20. Registrars enjoy keeping our money.
Warning again for .asia, I am their big fish and lost a lot of money.

same ol story - same when .co.uk's came out, same when mobi came out, and same when eu came out. even same s**t different day. my post is based on fact and kochasi yours is based on fiction. asia internet community will be bigger than u.s. market ( its fact ), I have invested in .coms .nets etc etc and made money out of them thanks, thats why a few of my domains were listed in dnjournal this month :p

nobody can say ".asia is going to fail" as fact, you can give an opinion but please not nonsense

also being half japanse does not make you 1. an expert on .asia domains 2. an expert on the region. its a bit like someone from the uk claiming to be an expert on greece or turkey

EU, total failure. Mobi, on the way to failure (see prices dropping dramatically since it came out).

Your ability to comprehend basic english is disappointing. You first claim I am a 'dumass' (PS learn to spell properly before insulting someone else's spelling) and then call me a stupid yank who doesn't know anything beyond NY or LA. Then you conviniently ignore the fact I have lived in asia for years and have travelled extensively around the region. Of course to back this up you make your apples to oranges comparison of it's like a brit saying they know greece. When in fact it would be more akin to a german saying they understand the EU. However, that is a bad example because asia doesn't have anything close to the EU which is one of the basic problems with this whole .asia garbage. .EU was a failure with an actual European Union. There is no asian union where all the asians are sharing the same laws, government, currency and policies.

Of course you like to throw in a ccTLD, like co.uk which isn't even close to a newly introduced gTLD. More apples and oranges comparisons.

    Speaking of DNJournal... http://www.dnjournal.com/archive/lowdown/2008/dailyposts/03-25-08.htm

It's just knowing of how to create a hype and boost demand for a product that no one really needs. Look at what happened to the Eu extension, in the beginning everybody was all hyped up and wanted to have some Eu domains. The Eu extension was going to be the number two after the .com. Nowadays hardly anybody wants Eu's and the commercial value is very low.

i agree with all the neg remarks ( even koshashi, my new friend ) - i know .com is king etc etc however, people that have picked up 1 word generics and premium names will make money! i reject any remarks from people with large .com portfolios as they dont want any extensions to "make it" ( for obvious reasons ) but how on earth does joe blow from china get his company on the net??? by using my-company-is-here.com?? Not enough .coms to go around and as the asian intenet market will outstrip the u.s. in 3 years i think its time for another domain to grow up and offer an alternative.

I do not see anything wrong with .asia . Just imagine if we only had .com ? everybody is looking for a meaningful url for their website. Some have patriotic reasons, some geographical reasons. .asia is the same as .eu . and I do not see anybody questioning the validity of creating an .eu extension. Also , creating innovative extensions will have a better marketing impact . Just imagine what cool domain will be buy.me . date.me etc.
