I am new to PR...however I am trying to understand it, learn it. I've looked it up in Google, but I didn't find much.

Can anybody explain or does anyone have a link to a good explanatory site?

    Thanks!

Pagerank is the name given to Google's method of ranking pages according to a number of factors such as link popularity. The more pages and higher pagerank pages linking to your site, the higher your pagerank will be. It will also help your serps.

Yeah, I read that already. Thanks, though.

Profanitytalker, how do you know if a site is PR1 or PR3 though?

PageRank is Google's system of measuring the number and quality of the links that point to any given page. The page at http://www.webworkshop.net/pagerank.html gives a good explaination of the original PageRank formula devised by Google's founders. The best evidence is that it reamins fundamentally unchanged to this day.

There is really only one source of PageRank information - the publically-available database Google uses for the PageRank display in the Google Toolbar. However, since Google is really a network of many datacenters, the PageRank information for any single page can vary from one datacenter to the next depending on several factors. I wouldn't worry about that. Just download the Google Toolbar and install it.

Just acquire as many high pr backlinks as you can to your site and you will boost your pr. You also get credit for pages within your site that link back to your homepage, so adding many content pages can help a little bit as well.

Yes, your own inner pages are an often-overlooked source of PR flow to a page that you target for higher PR. As noted in earlier threads, the key is to limit the number of outgoing links from the page you are trying to increase in its PR. Then be sure to get many (or in the case of your home page, all) of your inner pages pointing a link back to that targeted page.

Thanks to all, a lot of help!

So, I installed the Google toolbar, I see the PageRank at top. However, I just see the green bar...how do you know exactly if it is a PR6 or PR7, etc?

Or do you have to do it with the formula?

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/PageRank

That provides a much better explanation than Google in my opinion.

Google detects your Page Rank based on how many links are linked to you, how credible the links are, and your traffic loads.

Do not think about PR. Try to get traffic. You could have PR 7-8 but that PR doesn´t mean anything without traffic. At the beginning I was thinking like you. Just imagine a world without PageRank and you can do your website better.
