How old are you? Old enough to fight for Hitchens? GET YOUR TIN HAT ON SOLDIER!

I already said i am against the war. why would i want to fight in it? Even though i disagree with Hitchens when it comes to the war i also disagree with your facile, weak attempt at countering his position. maybe when you develop some intellectual honesty you will understand what i mean.

Hitchens makes a good case for the war, I still disagree with him, but he makes a good case. Compare that to your sporadic shouts of "asshole" and the suggestion that a fat 50 year old man who supports a war should fight in it and you will see why i have more respect for him than i do for you.

i would rather be in disagreement with an intelligent gentleman than in agreement with a boorish oaf.

    Precisely my position.

Btw, what is your reasoning that Hitchens should not fight in "his war"? That he's 50, or that he is fat? Or was it both?

    Fat - lose weight.

50 - Lots of jobs in the armed forces for a 50 year old. Cleaning latrines, washing dishes, doing laundry. Hey, someone's got to do it, and Hitchens thinks this is the most moral war that we could be fighting, the battle for the future of humanity.

Don't you reckon he should do his part?

If he is able he should do his part. But he isn't able. You know as well as i do that a fat 50 year old isn't going to be considered for any job in the military. They don't base employment on whether you favour the war or not.

Yeah, but if he really feels this war is worth fighting, if it's worth people dying for, surely he could lose some weight.

And please don't tell me a 50 year old man can't cook a meal, or change some sheets, or sweep out a pantry. Dno't tell me he can't do a load of laundry etc. etc. There are lots of 70 year old men who still work for a living.

He can volunteer. I mean, he's volunteering others, isn't he?

I doubt it. He is fairly large. plus there is the fitness side of it. I think it's safe to assume that if you are 50 and obese your chances of joining the military have come to an end.
Of course a 50 year old can do those things and of course some people of 70 still work, But the military don't employ them.
I'm sure the same requirements apply to volunteers. it's not like volunteering to work in a soup kitchen. And no he isn't volunteering anyone. these people signed up to do a job and while i don't agree with the job they have been assigned to do they still signed up on their own free will, they are getting paid and they knew what the job entailed.

Do you know what Stop-Loss is? Do you understand that a lot of these people did not sign up for tours this long, or to be sent out again and again?

People join the military to serve their country and be a professional soldier. Not to participate in Christopher Hitchens' flights of fantasy and fools errands.

It's irrelevant. They signed up knowing full well what the job of the military is and what it may involve.

I think we can all agree that the @sshole needs to get his big fat flabby arse out to the disaster zone. :)

I'll even pay for the scumbags ticket and buy him a tin hat.
