This is great, I used your first link. But how important are backlinks? I have 442 backlinks, but why is my technorati rank and google rank so incredible low still?

    hedgeagainstspeculation.com is my webiste...

Backlink help your website with reliability and importance within Search Engines.

In a nutshell the number of backlinks have become so important to the scope of Search Engine Optimization, that they have become some of the main building blocks to good SEO.

The number of backlinks is an indication of the "popularity" or importance of that website. Search engines, especially Google, will give more credit to websites that have a good number of QUALITY backlinks, and consider those websites more relevant on SERPS

If you have a bunch of "bad" links it wont be affective at either result or PR.

    Cheers
    Lucio

My guess would be the small amount of backlinks...you need at least 5-10k to be atop the ranks in google. You also need some more pr4-5-6-7 links cuz most of yours are pr0.

That method only shows a very small portion of your actual links that Google sees. Using Google's webmaster tools is the better way than using link:www.yoursiteURL.com

Each site is a bit different in the algorithms they use. Like I mentioned to someone else, even google's link:yourURLhere.com isn't even accurate, actually, it's probably the least.

The best thing to do is to stick to 2 or 3 (I use the ones near the top mostly, just provided the others so people can choose their favorites)

The very top one is pretty accurate. Instead of comparing the results BETWEEN the different sites, just keep a weekly tab on the results from one or two and compare the stats against the previous week.

Google doesnt like to count certain websites because they either charged for a link or violated some Google TOS.

Thank you for the list. However, I would rather remove the smartpagerank link from your list if you can still edit it. Otherwise some children might use it and rejoice on Yahoo.com's PR being only 0 :D
To be honest smartpagerank doesn't do a ****!

    If I may suggest:
http://www.seochat.com/seo-tools/pagerank-lookup/ is a nice tool for bulk checking PageRank (chunks of 100 addresses)
and call me old-fashioned, but I kinda love Yahoo Linkdomain
It allows you to download backlinks for a site in a neat comma-separated file so that you can play with it using Excel.

    Cheers!
