Google has lost its second high-profile employee to Facebook in less than a month. Ethan Beard has quit as head of social media at Google to join Facebook as director of business development. http://www.vnunet.com/vnunet/news/2213031/google-loses-second-exec-facebook
^^ But Facebook represents a potential threat as a platform. Remember, this is what made MS-DOS and Windows skyrocket to popularity, and what made MS the company it is today - all by controlling the platform.
I think he made the right choice -- Google is so huge now that it's hard to really make an impact or do anything on the flip of a dime. Facebook is small and technically a "start-up", so there's more potential to see more growth and be able to do more with the company. It makes sense, and he probably was compensated quite well for the transition.
face book has long way to go. google has already been on top.. face book has yet to climb up... but its nice to see in the future if face book will surpass google =) its very interesting
Facebook and Google are at two totally different arenas, they can be complementary but definitely not competing in the same niche.
They can fill the position no problem. Im sure there are hundreds of people who are more than qualified for that job that want to work for Google. Big deal over nothing if you ask me.
It doesnt. But I am sure that Ethan Beard felt he could probably utilize his talents better at facebook. I am sure you know that already. But again its just a better oppurtunity to grow and move forward on a fast pace site. I know their is a growing trend for uni students to use the site vs myspace. You know a grown up version. And a quite a few more professionals( or wannabes) use it.
Facebook is finally more popular than MySpace, at least according to Alexa. Facebook deserves it imo.
I think when someone changes jobs from a very infulencial job it's one of two things a way to start grow a company with the vision you have or a way to cut back on work and enjoy life a little more. Money is always better and is rarly the motivation at this level. Good for him and doing something he wants and is passionate about.
