I agree but it's more likely that the so-called quality would be higher for a .mil or .gov :)

Yeah it's not the TLD it's the page. However, .mil,.gov and .edu links usually have more authority which is why they are stronger. It's got nothing to do with the TLD just the page

If you are in need for a .edu link. You can always pay for blog space at http://blogs.adison.edu/. Some may not like it and I know some complained in the past. But it is an .edu and I am not sure how much relevance it will give in the SE/SEO work.

    Whatever next?

Currently thinking of asking the ICANN to back my proposed DOT B S (.bs) TLD for all the n00bs in the world that somehow believe .gov, .edu and .org links give some 'special power' to the backlink.

Simple factor - ushered from the mouth of Google's 'finest':

"Typically, our policy is: a link is a link, is a link; wherever that link's worth is, that is the worth that we give it. Some people ask about links from DMOZ, links from .edu or links from .gov, and they say: "Isn't there some sort of boost? Isn't a link better if it comes from a .edu?" The short answer is: no, it is not. It is just .edu links tend to have higher PageRank, because more people link to .edu's or .gov's."

I saw a suggestion for .edu if you have attended college contact your college and ask them as an alumni to do a link and then ask them to refer to your sister colleges. Once you have those contact other colleges in the area and show them how these other schools have participated and would they like to as well. College recruitment offices are usually willing to do if relevant and most business are in someway or another to courses they offer.

Spider-Man, please present your apologies to people in Bahamas, poor them,, they have nothing to do with the n00bs you were talking about. :)

Anyway, I will back your new TLD... Let's go with .bls since .bs is already taken. :)
