I prefer vista, especially the search feature on the start menu. I don't have to organize all the programs anymore or take forever to search for an application I can just type in the name and it'll bring it up.

What are the small things that make Vista a big product for me:

    - I can search with just one click on upper-right corner of Explorer.
    - even if I have "Hide extensions for known file types" turned off and try to rename a file, all the text that is selected is without the extension, so I can rename a file very easy, without typing again the extension
    - it automatically sorts files as I copy-paste them, without needing to do a refresh
    - that "Links" feature from Explrer's left frame, where I put all my folders shortcuts
    - it can skip the files that can't be deleted, so I don't have to do it manually

All the above things are missing in XP, or are possible just with 3rd party software. So why bother to install them, when you have all this built into the OS? ;)

I don't know about you guys but my Vista computer has double the RAM my XP does, yet my XP computer easily outhandles tasks and doesn't freeze. I'm a heavy multi-tasker and XP really does it for me. To be honest, I hate all of the bells of Vista, they just slow the computer down and even with the least graphical settings on, XP still outpaces it. That's my personal opinion, that's why my production computer is loaded with XP and not Vista.

I'll pass having to pay $390 for that or whatever it costs!
those are nice but seldom used features @ least in my dealings...

Vista is like having a BMW clock radio...what's the point!

there you go....real life somebody who has used both

but hey, I thought Vista was supposed to make better use of dual core processors

I am not a big fan of Vista. My brand new laptop is getting very slow after nine months, not to mention dozens of little things.

I bet that in one or two years, that poll will be reversed, anyone will have at least 2 GB of RAM, and the majority of games will be on DX 10. Also, I think people will be pleased by SP1 of Vista, which makes it run much more smoother.

I wonder why did they rapidly publish vista though it still has a lot of things to fix up? I was expecting Vista would be more good than XP. But when I tried it, I prefer to go to XP!

XP is a known devil, Vista is an unknown Angel. So choose your pick :)

I recently picked a Sony Vaio laptop with vista home premium on it. Less than 2 weeks, it crashed and failed to boot back. The store attendant re-installed after checking the hardware and asked me not to enable automatic updates!! Its been more than 7 months now.. and it's smooth without any problem. I do plan to update the OS with all MS updates, but, only after a complete backup.

It IS more good than XP, depends of you POV. If you're "running" for best performance, fast, etc, you would say that XP is better.

But if you want security, latest technology, if you're a .NET developer and so on, you will choose Vista ;)

I bought a new laptop with more memory than my XP machine. Vista is a pig and after 8 months my machine is starting to really crawl.

I have a 3Ghz P4 with 2GB Ram and my Vista machine runs HALF AS FAST (ie much slower!) as my XP machine with an old Celeron 2Ghz processor with 1 GB of RAM.

XP Pro all the way. Never had a crash and it runs all of the programs I need perfectly.

I like vista. I just use it for webmaster stuff and find that it is really efficient however if you are a hardcore gamer it is a completely different story.

that's not surprising...you need a dual core for sure I would think with Vista for all the graphical stuff (bells & whistles) alone.
