I need some advise on how i should deal with sending out a newsletter to all of my members on my social network. Should i send out a newsletter to all the email addresses or should i send it just to their profile inbox on the website. 1. If i send it out to their email address i risk getting reported for spam (even though it's not spam - just a regular monthly newsletter). I also don't verify email address when users sign up so a lot of them might be fake emails. 2. If I send it out to their profile's inbox i know each member will get the message. Also anytime they get a message in their inbox they get notified of getting a new message through email. What do you think is better. I'm thinking about just sending it out to their inboxes on the website.
Hello netpox , Personally I would chose option number 1 because i believe that most of the members , they firstly check their emails before going in any other site or especially in your case , sign in at your site to get the notice. It also depends on the type of the newsletter , if it is an advertisement , you can send it wherever you want but if it is an important announcement then send it at their profile inbox Good Luck Olgi
Hi thanks for a reply! Basically it would be just a monthly newsletter telling all the members about new updates and news on the website. Not advertising anything else just providing them with new info about the site.
You could do both. Send the newsletter to their profile in boxes and then send them a very clean (no BS, just the reason for sending it) email letting them know that there is a new email waiting in their inbox. This accomplishes a couple of things: first - you can clean up your external email list and verify those as much as possible. That makes for a good list to email to. Secondly - you get traffic back to your site, which of course is where you have all of your ads. I personally feel that this could be very effective as if I were a member, I would appreciate a simple "you have mail" email. I get enough ads thrown at me, I don't need them in a notification email too. And you'll get great distribution of your newsletter and not have to worry about spam issues. The other thing you could do is offer an 'opt in' box to see if your members would prefer your news letter be sent to an alternate address.
