Got an invite to Google Admanager - Should I trust the G?

Discussion in 'Google' started by carl_in_florida, Mar 19, 2008.

I got the email from Google today but I am a little worried that they will have all of my ad stats. This does not seem to be real smart for publishers.

Anyone else worried about this? Anyone else using this?

I don't think they'd be offering it unless they were confident that it would demonstrate the value of Adsense vs. competitors.

Is the main fear that they'll use it to figure out what's the least they can pay you in Adsense %s? I guess it's possible. But if publishers start seeing declines in Adsense revenue after installing AdManager, it'll cause an uproar and hurt G in the long run.

It is a bit worrying to give them even more data, but as long as the current management is running the show, I don't think they'll abuse it. Who knows, I could be dead wrong.

That is my exact concern. The G is always looking to better their bottom line.

Shoemoney writes a great blog but you can't give access to all your data just cause a guy with a big adsense check says it is ok.

There is a moment when name become a brand :) So if a guy with a big adsense check says it is ok... It's ok :) If you use G Analytics they already got the info. If you concern about your info use open ads

I think it enables you to manage all the ads (such as private) through Google and get stats for them. To be perfectly honest I don't really no.

Ask yourself this question: if it works as advertised, will it help you make more money, or save a lot of time? If you can answer yes to that question, join - if not, don't!

If you are not doing anything that violates google's rules you can trust them.

I started working with the admanager. I use Openads, which I think is Openx or something like that now. But openads was difficult for me to learn and is somewhat counter intuitive but once you have it set up is pretty easy to run.

This Google app possibly even less intuitive. It took me forever to get it going on a small site of mine. But here is the biggest rub for me: There are no folders for sites, ads or advertisers. Like in Gmail, everything goes into one folder. So if you have a dozen sites with five or six ad slots then all sixty ad slots are lumped together. You have to name them siteone_rightside_button_125x125. Instead of having a folder that has the siteone ad slots.

This is a weakness for gmail and is definitely a weakness for admanager.

However, openads is the largest user of resources on my server and if I can migrate off my box this would save me resources. the fear though is that this will not be free forever.
