Right now, Intel is ahead I'd say. I've always been a fan of the underdog though, so I'm hoping AMD and ATI will shoot ahead soon.
I have ALWAYS used AMD, until my current computer. And I have to say, this Intel Dual-Core processor destroys the comparable AMD one. It's sad, because I've always been an AMD "fanboy." Like I said, I'm sure they'll be ahead soon enough. They are so late with the quad-core release... kinda sad.
"AMD" and "Intel" aren't CPUs but manufaturers. And "better" is an unspecific comparison which does not return reliable results. You can build a quite powerfull PC around a low-cost AMD CPU, but you can built the most powerfull PCs with Intel CPUs at the moment. Anything depends on the required performance of your machine. Up to a price of around 150-200$ you will get slightly more bang for the buck if you use an AMD CPU. And even with an equal CPU performance, the AMD based machine usually is a bit cheaper, bcoz the mainboards are a bit cheaper in general.
Intel's winning pretty strong in CPU benchmarks as well http://www.cpubenchmark.net/high_end_cpus.html once i was searhcing for article to write on the 2 and came across this http://techreport.com/articles.x/12091 it has many info on the same question
Given that most benchmarks are quite useless I'd rather prefer something like this: http://www23.tomshardware.com/cpu_2007.html?modelx=33&model1=946&model2=882&chart=444 (lower numbers mean less $ per performance). Without being specific about what is needed exactly, all discussions are fruitless and none CPU is better than the other.
I have been using AMD and will continue to use it in future also. You will get more value for less money with AMD
Both are solid processors: Have Intel in this machine and its ok have AMD in another machine and its also ok, but way cheaper...
To be very honest i never used the AMD processor...... INTEL is the best processor i think these days.... AMD may produce some good processor but at this time intel is ahead.
For a simple end-user Intel is way better, it's more reliable. If you will try to boost Intel processor, it will boost to it's limit, and when it will be overheated it will get a force shutdown. While, if AMD will get overheated it will just burn
LOL. You mean the K5-133? LOL. The earlier Athons didn't have thermal protection. Later XPs had a thermal diode, but required the mobo mfc to check temp and in case of overheating to switch off. Atlohn64 has intedgrated thermal protection which will avoid a "burnout". It's still possible (both AMD and Intel) to decrease the lifetime of your CPU significantly by overclocking and running your CPU always above allowed specs. A normal "enduser" hardly knows what a CPU does and why "Pentium" is not the same as "CPU" (Intel marketing was VERY successfull!)
