...do sitemaps not get treated as link farms by SE's?

Because the sitemap just makes it easy for the SE to find what is on your site and what links lead out from it. They are not the CONTENT of the site like a linkfarm is.

....the links make up the content of a link farm page, is that not the same as a site map?

I suppose an SE can work out that the links on a site map are all directed internally therefore as you mentioned helping the spiders, whereas a link farm will harvest other/own content.

    My Dear Friend

Can I know on what basis you are giving this statement ?

Ok whatever but listen the basic funda which works in google

Sitemap must only be linked from your homepage and not any other page. Why?

    1) The reason is that you should allow search engine spiders to find this link directly from your homepage. Your sitemap must not be linked to from every other page of your site. Also from a Google Pagerank point of view only linking to your sitemap from your homepage can also funnel PR quickly to pages all over your site.

    2) If you have a large website of more than 100 pages then limit the number of pages listed on your sitemap to a maximum of 40. The reason behind this is to protect your from being misinterpreted as a link farm by the search engines.

It also makes the sitemap a lot easier for real human visitors to read through. Limiting the number of pages listed on each sitemap to 40 might mean splitting your sitemap over 10, 20 or 30 pages. This has to be done and the long term benefits are worth it.

Keep this in mind that if you do create a 30 page sitemap you've just created an extra 30 pages of content for your website!

    ;) Yes DPKING right.

    No Dear,
First:a site map can make it easier for a search engine spider to find all a site's pages.
Second: site map makes it easier for a user to find information on a site without having to navigate through the site's many pages.

Sitemap is not a link farm. It is the list of all your links complied in one page in order to help not only in spider to crawl your link but also in your visitors. Visitors will become easy to navigate your pages via sitemap.

I too confused with badmaash' thread.

sitemap contains internal links of website, how could you count internal linking as link farm?
Even you can use place link in your content to using proper anchor,
Site Map contains all your website links through spiders easily come to know about each and every links.
Sitemap helps you to get indexed your each and every pages very quickly in Big G.

    hi,
We can't say, sitemaps get treated as link farms by SE's? a site map can make it easier for a search engine spider to find all a site's pages. as we not put all the link in hone page. so we have to create sitemap
