Age doesn't matter and it shouldn't. What matters is does the blogger know what they're writing about and can they actually teach me something.

Like others said it can also be a selling point used by adults who want to set themselves apart from the rest of the internet marketing crowd. Their readers might say to themselves after seeing an earnings screenshot (hopefully not photoshopped) "that kid makes more than I do!" and become a subscriber because they might be able to teach them a new tactic they can use to make similar earnings.

Though, age should be a factor just the content.

His tagline is "Making Money Online With a 13 Year Old". If that isn't exploiting his age, then I don't know what is! I myself hardly mention my age (14 yo) on my blog, except for in my profile page. I expect people to judge me on quality, not on age.

I don't think age should matter. Quality, content, integrity of the individual should matter far greater than age.

    Exactly what I do.

Though if it'll bring me some more subscribers, well... must resist urge to become a sellout!

Age shouldn't matter, but can. I don't mean that in terms of oh you can't do that because you are (fill in age here). I simply mean that because using myself as an example it takes time to learn. Experience over anything else has taught me more things than i can think of.

I doubt he even increased the age each year to reflect his current age.

Judging from the list of top Under-21 Bloggers, it looks like you're only allowed to play the "age" card if you have poorly-written content. Too bad...

Michael Dunlop of RetireAt21 is actually making an auto-updated list of young bloggers. You should check it out (it's at the forums) and submit your site - it'll have more accurate rankings.

I noticed that the original list was ranked pretty arbitrarily. I'm betting he just chose the blogs at random, hoping that they'd all write a post about being on the Top Under 21 List, and thus giving Retire@21 about 30 backlinks. Seeing how many of the blogs wrote about being on the list, I may be right.

Age is irrelevant, as all that matters is how well you can market yourself.

Although age does bring a lot of press once you accomplish something few adults even do. (For example, I see headlines such as "How a 14 year old made his first million" inspires people to "make a million" even though they probably never will, and ultimately his age had nothing to do with it.

[Disclosure: I am on the list, and I am only 18, although I have never used my age as a selling point, I let my work speak for itself]

It has to do with maturity. I am 16 and am able to make better decisions than some people who are 39! Well...we won't go there...

That's probably because you aren't yet old enough to drink beer, smoke cigarettes, or have sex (unless you don't live in the U.S., in which case, please pardon my ethnocentricity).

it all depends... first few questions.... what is the blog about? does it have rich content?

in some ways i can see an advantage because I bet there are a lot more young kids and myspacers who are clicking all sorts of stupid ads on these sites as opposed to older more mature people who would be cautious to click just anything. taking that into consideration, if you want to target a younger crowd, then you just gotta be like them... even faking an identity could be done easily online.. and building a fanbase is as easy as adding random people as friends on myspace.

So to sum it up, age can definitely help you.... provided that you know how to use it for your advantage... and just reading this post I am actually thinking about starting a blog targeting teens... sounds like it could be profitable

I'm not really a blogger:( Not the greatest writer, everyone thinks I'm a non-English speaking person.:D I might be a blogger someday though, if I'm motivated enough to write something and have the time.

I really don't think age matters a whole lot, as long as the person knows what the hell he's talking about and has the experience to back himself up, who cares?

I've read of detractors saying that carlocab.com website is actually run by the father with the son as a mascot. The strategy is good marketing- something I see employed by a growing number of competing sites.

If that isn't the case, the alternative is also just as impressive: a 13 year old making the salary of a 40 year old.

Either way, carlocab.com sets a pretty good standard for budding entrepreneurs to emulate. Fly high!
