Having two websites/urls on the one hosting plan?

    Hi folks,

I have a forum on a shared host. I'm wondering if this is possible...

Can I register a new url, create a new folder on my hosting and assing that folder to the url?

Or do I need to purchase an additional account on the host?

I know I could add a subdomain and assing that to the new folder but I would like a totally new url.

    Any help would be appreciated.

    Thanks :)

It depends on your host and the package you sign up, some packages allow for unlimited domains, you will need to check the your hosting specs on that.

In that case, it is great, you can add a subdomain or an additional domain, all up to you :)

Yes if it's in your cpanel it will add a folder to your main account as a subdomain and point the addon domain to it.

It's all set up now, thanks for the replies.

I'm using Hostgator and have unlimited domains.

I created a new 'addon domain' and assigned the new url to that domain. Changed the nameservers to the hostgator nameservers, waited 5 mins to register and it was all working. Added a test index.html and it was there. :)

I've since installed Wordpress and it's looking good. Just shows what you can do with a few hours work.

I've submitted it to Yahoo, MSN and Google as well as added it to Google/Webmasters and uploaded a sitemap.

Now I need to wait. :)

    Thanks
