I want to place Google Adsense on my Directory www.whynotlink.com Can anyone plz. tell which .tpl file I have to edit for that. I want to place adsense on footer of every page and above category list on all category pages. Thanks for your help in advance.
Footer = footer.tpl Categories = main.tpl or bottom of top_bar.tpl - depends how your template works. Adsense is not advised. You won't make many pennies this way.
Already tried G.Adsense on web directories but not happy with its results So stay away from that IMO. DON.

Well I have it on my directory and I am testing it out. I know of some successful directory owners who are earning a good sum of money from Adsense.
In my experience Adsense pays very little in a web directory. Just not a good setting for a high % of clicks.
I guess the same could be said for any website though, so you dont know that it does poorly in directories exclusively, every single day i read a thread where someone protests that adsense is doing poorly on their website. That includes, blogs, forums etc
I think that above is true to a point but there seems to be an extra struggle with directories because most have webmasters as the majority of visitors. In general, webmasters tend to click on adsense less that regular visitors.
If one can make 10 $ per month then is that bad deal ? Plz. post your view I know one guy who has over 200 directory and making more then 8000 $ from adsense only.
It is not impossible. In fact...the directory from my signature was free when I first launched it. I had 150+ uniques per day... and I was making between 0.5 - 1$ per day, taking into account that 70% of my traffic was from India. So...30$ per month from one directory...with 200 directories... it will be an easy 6000$ per month. It is possible...
See theres a method to the madness, now you know why those free directories most of you complain about are happy to exist, they have fresh content, bound to serve up some fresh ads from time to time. Now im waiting for the surge of free directory networks to be setup by the paid directory owners.
I don't buy any of it, sorry. Typically a free directory that is getting 150 visits a day is getting half bots and I doubt the other half is clicking many ads, in fact I believe having adsense on a submit page is against the ToS and that is where most of the other half enter. You probably have a better chance of making money by selliing a featured submission than taking the chance of someone clicking an adsense ad and giving you the big .05 or .20 I have owned dozens of directories with one averaging around 600 visits a day and I would not even make $10 a month via adsense on that one.
