Hey everyone. Alright so, I know this isn't a personal life story forum, but recently I got in a car accident, and insurance is NOT covering it. Thus, I need to really make some money on the side from my job. Now, I am NOT a stupid person who thinks money will roll in on the internet with no work being put in. Last year I did some Adsense work, wasn't TOO successful (it was my first time), but definitely picked up a lot of experience from my attempt. I have general experience in marketing, web design, etc... Now, the question I am here to ask in "General Business" is, what path do you think I should take for an online income? I'm ready to buy and a run site, or whatever else it will take to work. Once again, I KNOW it is not a get-rich quick scheme. I am willing to put the time in, but I am not an EXPERT, so I am asking for some help and ideas. So, feel free to speak your mind out on here! Regards Ben PS. If anyone is willing to help me out VIA MSN or Yahoo, please PM me and let me know!
Flipping Sites! It's the trend these days.. Buy a site wherein you can see potential and where you can have areas to improve on .. then promote, advertise send in lots of traffic and increase its PR. Then you can sell it at a higher price. Although, this will take time.
If you have any abilities at all, use them. Write articles or do forum posting. Try coding or design. Use an old website to start selling links through content, etc... Selling a service of some kind is almost always going to earn you more initially with less expense. Granted, using your service for your own good will likely earn you more down the road, but it sounds like you need money now. Rebecca
Have you considered starting a thread offering your services in the appropriate advertising sections here on DP? Send me a Pm if you are interested in some forum posting work.
Sorry, I think we're having a misunderstanding. When I said "general", I was hinting towards a type of project as in running a website for myself. By general web design I mean that I would be able to start and run a basic website. I'm not looking to do projects for other people, as I am not that advanced. Although, thanks for the suggestion!
I have to cover about 4000$ for repairs. The accident will also be on my record for 6 years, so my insurance will be raised for that duration.
Perhaps start a blog of your favourite topic of choice, post regularly and SEO it, and then find an affiliate of choice to promote/adsense.
Alright. Well, what are some good niches in this day and time? I don't want to pick a topic that will get NO revenue. But I do understand that is not that important, as long as you SEO, Advertise, etc your blog properly. Also, would you suggest that I use a FREE blog site, or buy a domain?
This is the best advice anyone has given. You should sharpen you web dev skills and pick up some contract work. You don't need to be an expert programmer to build sites for folks. And it is good money once you build up some clients. Repeat business, etc. And you can work from the comfort of your home... Which is what you are looking for right? It is the only option that is going to make you any money in the next 1-2 years. All the other ideas about starting a blog or a site is going to take you years to build up... years of hard work and marketing... learning... failing... not giving up... trying again... etc. If you really need money, find some clients to do some web work for. There is no golden goose that you seem so bent on finding... But if you are still unwilling to work for someone else... my best advice... find a hole that needs filling and fill it... If you want someone to tell you what hole to fill... it is not a hole that needs filling... you need to find it yourself... get it? Good luck!
Sorry for the accident,I think you have started your online business already by asking dpers this question here,YES,of course, you can start online business if you have time and interest. Good luck and best wishes. A
I'll echo what the above have said. Through running various very small to medium websites, I learnt a lot of useful skills, particularly SEO. I decided to setup an SEO business within the UK so I could meet with clients face to face and offer a greater level of security, and that now earns about 8x more each month than all my other sites put together. Selling a service will always have a higher ROI because it is selling hours of your time. If hours of your time is something you have a lot of right now, then I would suggest you start an online business selling a service, NOT an online business that actually serves no other purpose other than to pull what it can from the search engines and convert it to PPC or affiliate sales. Best of luck
What about doing bum marketing? That is basically writing articles, posting it on article directories, and linking it to affilate programs so that you earn affiliate commission. It has worked for a lot of people starting out. You can get the method here at bummarketingmethod.com for free.
If you want, I can get you a job with someone to help you out! If you want that, drop me a PM please !
