    Have you tried this?

75% of all my visitors comes from California. How about if I spacialize the website headlines text etc depending on what country the visitor comes from?

    Could I get more sales?

I know there are services like hxxp://www.ip2location.com/ and hxxp://www.analysespider.com/ip2country/IP-COUNTRY-REGION-CITY.html but im not sure the cost would be worth it. You could however beg someone to give you the IP range for your region and code something around that?

Regions don't have IP ranges (except at the ARIN delegation level - you can tell Asia, Africa, North America, etc. apart).

At the city and to some degree the country level, the IP ranges are fuzzy and constantly shifting, and the only way to be halfway accurate is to subscribe to one of these services.

I do believe there is a free one, though - I remember coming across the web site a few months back.

    http://fling.com/main.html?prg=1&id=noadvert

has this feature. Look on the right side.

Quite awhile back I sent them an e-mail asking where they got it. No reply back. No surprise, but it was worth a shot.

In the past my programmer tried to duplicate it, and the one in PlentyOfFish's site, but no go.

It's also hard to find such a feature like this that works, AND, it doesn't cost that much.

    Gonna try http://www.ip2location.com/

I had forgotten all about them. Thanks, Tom.

    Thanks again, Tom.

Small world that you mentiond maxmind.com. My programmer found them last week.

One version of it is free, but they say it isn't as accurate as the paid version. But the price is a bit much for this sort of thing. $90 a month.

Damn, bend me over and don't say "thank you" afterwards!

It may be worth it, but there really is no way of knowing for sure. I got that sucker in my "favorites," though.

I also contacted ip2location, and they sent me the info to put in the city finder.

Here's my second version of TheList.FM I'm working on...

    http://www.thelist.fm/thelist3.shtml

Look in the upper right corner.

Still working on the look of it and the wording, and it is still a test for now, but I think this may be the answer.

Is it reading your city, Tom?

Can anyone else tell me if they are seeing their city?

I'll let you all know how this works out.

The maxmind webmaster says that the free version isn't as accurate.

    Yes, the ip2location is free.

I'll have my programmer look into what you have seen. If it can't be ironed out more, I'm going to have to take it down.

    I'll keep you updated.

Nope, forget ip2location, Tom. It's not accurate at all.

In fact, in afterthought, this kind of tool is pretty useless in many cases, and it can probably hurt a webmaster. I got on my girlfriend's computer, and hers read Arlington, but she's in Chalreston. Her Internet provider is Comcast, and one of their servers is in...Arlington!

Yeah, we're in front of my site trying to figure the shit out now.

For now we rigged it to where they type in their area. Later on tonight I'll put in a short sales pitch underneath it to get them to do it. When it shows them their city after clicking "jump," that area, along with the pic will show again down below the page, just above the ordering form.

Hopefully it should be up tonight, so if you are looking for something like an ip finder, but are unsuccessful, you can copy from my version. It MIGHT be just as good. Fuck it. It couldn't hurt, anyway.

    Did ya see this one?

    http://www.ip-adress.com/

But that's too much. It might scare some users off. :D

Then again, being that you have a proxy, you may not see what I am seeing.

You proxy users piss me off. :p

I sent them and one other site an e-mail yesterday. Waiting for their reply back, if any at all. If not, I'm going to sitck with what I am doing now. Hell with it, for now, that is.
