Discussion in 'HTML & Website Design' started by justnaturally, Mar 27, 2008.

Something I can down load and either try or use tonight.

I have been having terrible luck. Everything I download....nothing has an editor like Frontpage or Dreamweaver. (where you can edit on page)

I need something I can actually edit on page (NOT IN THE CODE)

I dont want to work with code.

    Any life savers!!!

I tried taco and 2 others.

    THANKS

Just out of curiosity, why would you choose the more difficult way to do things?

    cheers,

WYSIWYG is not the way to go, tell your uncle or whomever wants it, that if he wants a functioning, proper website, that he should either learn the coding himself, or hire someone who knows how to do it properly to do it.

the best WYSIWYG is Dreamweaver. Download the 30 day trial from www.adobe.com and find a way around their activation.

Go to this link and then click on "Download Free Trial" http://www.adobe.com/products/dreamweaver/

But dont use WYSIWYG's because they make junk code. Learn to code by hand. It's not that hard

I'm with TDD-Designs on this one. What you need to do is explain that web design is not - as DrHdrF put it so colourfully- "colorforms". You use a crap WYSIWYG to slap together a website like you were making some goofy picture in a paint program - be it frontpage, dreamweaver, hotmetal, coffeecup, freeway, or any of the dozens of other overpriced half-assed "anyone can make a website that sucks" rubbish you end up with a steaming pile that doesn't work cross browser, is slow, bloated, and in general is going to take more effort to maintain in the coming year alone than you'd spend sitting down and just learning how to do it right in the first place. As I keep telling people, the only thing programs like that can teach you is how NOT to make a website.

You're going to have to explain that to him - that's the reality.

    all bad answers.

He cant learn HTML and it poor and we tried to download dreamweaver (all 600 megs of it) and for some reason.

I couldnt do it. And I know software. It also took 5 hours to download.

    So....I need a WYSIWYG I think I found a couple on a web search.

But man....I am a PC guy. I need something simple like front page.

NO WONDER BILL GATES IS SO RICH - Windows is so so simple. and it works.

Thats what I need, the Frontpage version of MAC. Thats it. Something - BESIDES Dreamweaver - where he can edit on page.

So far....I HAVE NOTHING from anyone except. Tell him to learn to code. Haaa

This is like a one time thing. Tell him to learn to code.

Ok.... I am asking, where do I get cheep moutian climbing shoes - and you are telling me....hire a helicopter. (when you say have him hire someone)

    I did a websearch so....it gave me a few.

Thanks for the "Tell him he must learn HTML" and "hire someone else"

Boy they helped. Did you ever think - there are special things going on...and one might have all ready thought of those things. jeeez

Well you are asking in the web design section of DigitalPoint, most people here are either designers, or at the least know how to code a web site. Most people here share the beliefs that have been posted here and you're unlikely to get any kind of different response here.

Not many people use WYSIWYG editors and those who do, probably don't post here (much)

I'm going to vary from my previous reaction - because one package did occur to me:
    http://www.seamonkey-project.org/releases/

Seamonkey, the current version of the mozilla suite, includes "Composer" - Which way back in the Netscape vs. Microsoft days was Netscapes equivalent to frontpage. It's not changed much since those days, and has all the flaws and problems associated with WYSIWYGS

But it's free, has an OSX version, and is relatively simple to use.

    They're the right answers.

Dreamweaver should only be 300MB <_<

frontpage may be simple, but i'm afraid it doesn't create webpages, it creates crappy non-working shitpages.

windows may work, but does it work properly? WYSIWYG works, but it doesn't do it right.

Frontpage isn't good by any means, it's the worst WYSIWYG ever (including dreamweaver).

You've been given the right answer several times.

What is it he's wanting to make?

But the mountain climbing shoes you want are full of holes, and will only end in your feet being severely injured and ending it in being more painful for you in the long run (and more painful for others).

then learn how to do it properly, or suffer by using a WYSIWYG.

If so, the question was bad.

    <snip>

Aha! That wasn't exactly mentioned, was it? If you can't clearly state the problem, how do you expect to get a good solution?

No, you were told to get good shoes, not some sorry POS that will fall apart on you or the caulks break.

    <snip>

Maybe you should relax a bit. How in hell are we supposed to guess there are "special things going on" if you don't list the full scope of the RFP and reasons for seeking a second rate solution?
